school nurses please help

I am a school nurse for the 1st time..and I need some ideas about what to tell the staff during opening orientation..I no I need to reveiw blood borne pathogens but what else should be reviewed. thanks.:uhoh21:

I am not a school nurse, but am a pedi nurse and believe everyone should have a review of CPR, infection control, signs/symptoms of dehydration and diabetes. Perhaps even cover security. If there are new teachers in the group do they know how to reach you, what your hours are and where your office is? Does everyone know where the fire extinguishers and exits are located? Is there an AED on premises? You could even make up a safety packet for the staff that contains poison control number or whatever you think would be a good reference for them. Sounds challenging. As the mother of a moderately severe asthmatic (who's also allergic to bee stings), I'll put in a special request that you include "how to handle an asthma attack" in your programme. I am absolutely horrified at the number of times I've seen school staff have no idea about what to do when a child presents at the office (or when another child runs to the office to alert staff) with an acute asthma attack.

Definitely signs of hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia, signs of dehydration, and don't forget about head lice--ugh!
