Specialties School

Published

I have worked in the hospital setting for the past nine years. I have a job for a school nurse position and i am wondering if anybody knows the type of questions that they are going to ask me. I am clueless! thanks

You may want to check under "nursing specialties" and find school nursing. I bet you will find people who can answer your question there. Or, you may find a simular subject that will give you good info.

Welcome to the board!!

Thanks for the info. Ps I forgot interview in question. I have a job interview for a school nurse position and I don't know the type of questions that will be asked. I have a general idea, but i don't want to be hit with something that I am not sure of!

Most of the questions will be situations and what you would do. Don't forget that the education system is like nothing else on the planet. They want to know how your knowledge and experience will help you be a part of the "education team". Please feel free to PM me and we can talk in detail. I have alot of experience and don't mind helping you out. Hope your interview wasn't today!

Hey,

You've been a CCU RN for 9 years. Don't be so worried... I think you can easily manage the care of healthy students. I have been an RN for only 4 years but I have worked in sales where you had to do plenty of interviewing! Try to keep in mind that you are not going to know every question they are going to ask. However, your background will certainly be able to provide quality answers. I think it's also important to keep in mind that they only gave you an interview after having seen your resume... so if they thought your background wasn't any good... you wouldn't have even gotten this far. Good luck but I'm guessing you won't need it.

I moved the thread to the School Nurse Forum; there will be a redirect from the other forum to this one. I hope this gets you more posters specific to your query.

Definitely stress your strengths like organizational skills, ability to prioritize, being a team player, and experience dealing with children and parents. (you would never have been able to work in the ER if these weren't your strengths!). If you get a chance to talk to a few school nurses in your area (just call one up), ask about the paperwork requirements, medication rules, health teaching involved, responsibilities to educate and treat staff, immunization requirements, etc. That way, you at least sound like you have a general idea of what the job entails. In NJ, where I work, school nurses are required to take college courses in school nursing and education, all above and beyond an RN license and Bachelor's degree. Good luck!!
