:) :) :) no question..my kids!!!:)

I am a Peds nurse, so it is kids in any setting. The thing that shocked me when I first started was the independence. I thrive on setting my own priorities, and taking action without having the whole day dictated from the get-go in an acute setting.

I love interacting with the kids ! They are such a "hoot" sometimes ! They can brighten my day when I am feeling a little blue. I feel good knowing that even in a small way, I have touched their lives in a possitive way. I had one little girl tell me "the best thing about getting sick, is that I get to come see you" ! Oh be still my heart ! :chuckle I find that parents either love you or hate you....no middle ground ! I truly love coming to work each day and each day is truly a new adventure. Most days I just have to throw my agenda to the wayside and do whatever is needed. Flexibility is a key word in this job. :rotfl: I also like the hours and the summers off. It is like having my cake and eating it too ! By the time June gets here, I am soooo ready to leave, but by early August I am counting the days when we return back to school !

Hello, I am an LPN I just move to Texas from Oklahoma. Call me crazy but I did not know that LPNs can be employed in the school system until yesterday. Of course in OK. we don't have school nurses. When I did my research I noticed that most nurses were RNs that held these positions. I spoke with my son's school nurse on yesterday who is an RN and she told me how to apply for a position. So tell me if you don't mine, what all does your job intel and also I thought I heard her mention that you set your own days and hours when you want to work.

Please write back.

Set own hours?

Two of the 4 school nurse jobs, absolutely not - hours were set and rigid.

One job was all early childhood casefinding and intervention in Texas. It was parttime and I did set all my own hours due to the fact that most of them were spent on home visits.

In California, I job shared, so two of us worked out our schedule. As long as someone was there, administration was happy. It was a great set up.

I really enjoy meeting people; I work as a substitute school nurse in several districts which means I am in contact with many and various personalities. So far as the nrsg. duties go, I always enjoyed the vision and hearing screening; looked forward to kindergarten registration and the enthusiasm within the little ones; and studying the impact of therapies and the way it would effect one's ability to learn.
