ugh the dreaded lice topic.

I have a student who has had lice since day one of this school year. No one else in the class has it--I have checked multiple times at the demand of the mother. We've called C&Y...they have been out to evaluate several times (per the mother) and the child still has lice. The mother called the school this morning and screamed at our secretary about how we need to check the ENTIRE school (thank god my administrative staff is smart and realizes that is not necessary)...but what the heck else can we do? I've provided the mother with factual documentation on the subject (that is easy to follow) and she still does not get it...

Check with your local housing authority, I believe they now have squatters rights. Ignorance is the hardest thing to overcome. Good luck changing her. Sad thing is she has time to blame others but not to comb her hair daily and bag/ clean bedding. Cheap and effective treatments.

i spent 2 minutes on the phone with a parent who insisted her child got the lice she found over break (a second infestation btw) from movie day where all the children sat on the carpet together. She wanted me to check the entire class, which i told her was against policy and a moot point if anyone else had also had it and treated it over break, they should not have any live lice for me to find. Then this mom offers to come in and check heads with me. I politely declined and told her it would violate privacy laws. I ended up sending a letter home to inform the parents - also technically against policy, but this is the parent that found it, and it doesn't say not to - so might as well send one. Then for extra fun I ended up finding live lice in a child in another class in the same grade. So much fun for one day. I'm so very glad it wasn't with a teacher that gets freaked out!
