Do you ever run out of things to do? I find that I am finished charting, ice packs are made, everything is organized and put in it's place, and things get pretty quite (some days). What do you do on slow days (not that I am complaining)?

I try to get get caught upon vision and hearing (especially my coded kids).

I review my emergency plans, thin out charts, update information.

When I can I try to get into the classroom (rarely does THAT ever happen)

But I also surf the web looking for training opportunities http://www.emsworld.com/ is one that is geared toward , uh, EMS but there are great links to training and medical information regarding the prehospital patient.

http://www.firehouse.com/ also has some training information as well.

I use Medscape. I look at other state schoool nurse websites NY has a super one with lots of forms and ideas.

All of the above plus clean and dust. Weed out old files, educational materials, etc that are out of date. Sometimes do class wide lice checks (teachers are always very happy to have this done no matter when it is!). Do inventory, clean out the clothes closet and re-organize, go talk to the secretary, do some continuing ed...
