Anyone have a resource they refer families to who are struggling with paying for now $500 EpiPens? For a family with two kids who have LTAs that require this life saving drug, it would cost $1000!!! Let alone having a pack at home AND a pack at school. Seems crazy and unethical.

EpiPen® Auto-Injector Savings Program

The EpiPen website has a prescription savings card. You have to have insurance to use it, but it can bring the co-pay to 0. A lot of my families have had success with it. The best part is that you can use it for up to 3 sets of EpiPens. It's unbelievable that the cost has gone up so much. I have a few parents that sent in only 1 pen because the can't afford 2 full packs:(

If I had to obtain epinephrine for my kids I'd talk my physician into prescribing me 2, 1ml ampules of 1:1000, which costs 5 to 10 dollars each, grab a handfull of syringes, take one set to school (with the prescription label instructions attached) and keep one set handy at home. The ampules have enough medicine for 3, 0.3ml, doses - plenty of med to make it to a hospital.

I realize there are all kinds of circumstance where this might not work for some people so don't dog pile on that. I'm just saying there is an alternative to the excessive cost of an "EpiPen."
