That's some pretty expensive medical plan...Employers usually contribute to the premium...With this price, I would think that maybe they stuck the whole premium to the employee...See if you can get an outside plan that will cost less and just opt out of their plan...Hope you sort this out...:)
That sounds like the full cost. We are self-employed and pay our full insurance premium, which is about $775/mo. for a healthy family of 4. This is with a $5K deductible and no mental health/substance abuse or maternity coverage. We are in a mostly rural state, so our cost is probably a little lower than a similar policy in a more urban location.
Like the others have said, I would be surprised if a school district employee who qualifies for benefits would be expected to pay the full premium.
that is crazy! Medical insurance through the schools here (in western NY state) is very cheap. My friend who works for a school was paying $20/month before she got married and now that she's married and has a baby it's still only $80/month!! That is so crazy cheap to me and another reason I would love to work at a school!

I was offered a school nursing position and I cannot believe the cost of employee and family medical coverage. It would cost me over $1,000 a month to cover myself and family. Is this the norm everywhere these days or do school systems not have the best benefits? In the past, I was used to paying like $200 or $300 a months tops for family coverage.
