Rural Nursing Scholarship?

  1. 0 I used to work at a medical facility and we had a nursing student doing clinicals that was on a scholarship. The scholarship payed for her schooling and even helpd a little with living expenses but she had to sign a contract that when she graduated she would work in a rural area or a governemnt facility like an Indian Reservation or prison for 4 years (I think). Has anyone ever heard of this or no where I could get more information? Thans

Hi, I'm posting to bump this to the top. I know there's someone in this forum that can help.

I know that I'm looking for the same kind of assistance. A local hospital here in Waco, Texas pays 1600 a semester BEFORE it starts. Every semester of financial aid is returned by you working for them for 6 months. It's a great deal, but I'd like to find out other hospitals that have the same or better offer. I'd hate to be stuck in this town if there were better offers.

    Anyways, someone PLEASE help us!

Here's the one I know of:
    http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship/

It appears to be HIGHLY competitive and need based. There's also a loan forgiveness program with them as well.

I recall from an orientation I attended (for a graduate nurse midwifery program) that there are other programs out there to attract advanced practice nurses to serve rural populations, particularly in Appalachia, but don't know the specifics.
