I started in my orientation in rehab this past Wednesday. So far I have watched as a RN gave meds, helped move a pt from one room to another, watched as the rn charted [twice], watched as another RN charted an admission and I am BORED!!

I want to do SOMETHING!! Could you all PLEASE tell me what you let a GN do while they were waiting to take the NCLEX?

I am at my wit's end!

Thanks!!

When I used to orient a GN, they were allowed to give meds, chart and do procedures/treatments under my supervision. The RN may have to co-sign after the GN. Check with your nurse manager or supervisor to see what your rehab's policy is. But I'd imagine you would be allowed to do more than just watch the RN.

Good luck in your new career and with NCLEX!

i tooo started as a rehab "intern" as it is called where i work. only i did not do nursing i worked as an aide... which i didn't mond so much because i had worked as an aid for numerous years... but now i am the rn supervisor of the skilled and nursing home side of the hospital i work at. i can't say it is what i want for long term but i am using all my skills like i never thought i would and then some. talk with the nurse manager and find out what your job descrition is all about and bring it to the attention of the nurses you are working with. good luck on boards!!! :)

Specializes in Rehab, Step-down,Tele,Hospice.

When I was waiting to take NCLEX last year, I was able to do it all. I had my own pts, I passed meds, I charted, I called the docs. The RN I was with just double checked everything I did. Was a great help when orientation was over I just jumped right into the job. This was also in Rehab (CVA floor)

Specializes in Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Home Health.

I took matters into my own hands yesterday and asked HR what my job description was. I learned that I can do everything except:

Pass meds

Hang blood

start IV's!!

Yippee!! :D :D :D :D
