George Washington University ABSN Fall 2013

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Hi, starting a thread for GWU ABSN Fall 2013 applicants. Has anyone applied? If so, have you heard anything from admissions?

Just got an acceptance letter!! Woo hoo!

Mindylane, you said there were scholarship opportunities. How can I find out more about that?

They will send you an email before you start with the information (I don't know anything about deadlines or anything). They are so incredibly proactive about sending out information about other scholarships they find throughout the semester, too! I got a scholarship from an essay that they told us about before the semester started... anything helps :D Good luck!

Congrats!! I don't know the exact date.... but I'm still waffling because of the price. It's pretty intense -- $83,434. Ahhhhh!!

Are you including the cost of EVERYTHING? Tuition is about $47k... you can definitely lower your other costs, honestly. I took out loans for a lot less and have been managing...

They sent out letters and not emails? Did you receive the letter today? I think that might mean a rejection for me, because I haven't received any news yet! :/

Yeah, Mindylane is right, it shouldn't be that expensive unless you're factoring in everything else. There's also the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program... Loan Repayment Program so even though it is definitely going to be hard for while--financially speaking--there are definitely ways for us to get through it!

Zoklaw--I'm not sure what they did for everyone else, but I received an email... nothing in the mail. Stay positive though!!! I literally just heard a couple days ago and some other applicants heard weeks ago. Stay positive, no news is good news

Also, I have never been to D.C/Virginia and I have absolutely no idea what to expect...is the public transportation good around the area we will be or will I need a car?

For clinicals, you will definitely need a car. As I'd mentioned, you have no idea where you'll be, so unless you make a friend who is willing to drive you every week (and there is actually a girl in my class who doesn't drive, and I'm driving her to clinical each week, but we may not be in the same clinical next semester, so she'll have to find another person willing to do this) you will probably have to drive. So far, the clinicals have been in Leesburg, Manassas, Fairfax, at Prince William Hospital, Alexandria, etc, so it really is just a matter of where you get placed... and clinicals start at 6:45-7:15am so there's really no option for public transportation.

Yes, I'm factoring in the cost of everything. :) And yes, you are right about lowering costs -- they do estimate living expenses, etc., to be rather high. Nevertheless, I'm not convinced that they are actually cheaper than Georgetown (which many people say is the case). Georgetown is about $70,000 (including all of living expenses), unless I am wrong.

Georgetown is REALLY expensive. If you go anywhere outside of DC, it's a lot less expensive. We looked at some apartments that were $1100/month (for two bedrooms). If you do a house share or apartment share, you can get your rent down even more. I'm splitting a two-bedroom with another couple and my boyfriend and I pay, combined, about $800/month. If you're worried about finances that much, don't live in Georgetown. It's a year and a half... you don't necessarily have to live in luxury if you need to survive on not a lot of money.

Unfortunately, my fiance is getting his master's at GU right now, so I can't move too far out of DC (we are getting married before the start of the program). But you are so right -- Foggy Bottom and that area is absolutely egregious.

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. I just wanted to introduce myself, as I just received the acceptance email! I am so happy. But I am waiting to hear from my first choice which is GMU. So hopefully anyday now I will know for certain where I am going. I am a veteran and without the GI Bill, there is no way I can afford this school, as it is so expensive. Anyway, looking forward to hearing from others as they are accepted.

Still waiting..

Hi all! I have already found out and was placed on the wait-list so no exact date of when everyone should find out. Good luck to those waiting. I think that's a good sign and probably means you're competitive.

I'm still waiting to hear - applied right before their deadline. Getting nervous!
