Hi, starting a thread for GWU ABSN Fall 2013 applicants. Has anyone applied? If so, have you heard anything from admissions?

Simoniebalonie: Will you be attending GWU for sure? Where are you moving from if you don't mind me asking? I was recently accepted and just visited the school 2 weeks ago. I'm not thrilled about living in VA, but the program seems great! I'm just a little overwhelmed with the thought of finding a place to live.

Not a problem.

Finding a place here really wasn't that bad at all. There are a ton of people subletting or sharing apartments. We also used this initially: The George Washington University | Off Campus Housing Search and roomsters.com to search for other people looking for roommates or for someone to sublease. Our big concern was finding someone who didn't mind sharing a place with a couple, but it really was actually painless. Ultimately, we found an apartment on craigslist, which has its own downsides, haha, but I recommend that as a place to search as well. This is from someone who came from Long Island, NY, where housing is ridiculous to begin with, so maybe my opinion is skewed, but we're already considering staying in this area when school is over (depending on where my boyfriend decides to go to school) but I think there are a lot of jobs in this area, as well! It's incredibly exciting.

The school does a Mentorship program, during which a second-semester student will act as a mentor for the new students... definitely sign up if you decide to go to GWU. My mentor has been incredibly helpful and is always available if/when I need help with something... I'm looking forward to doing it next semester, so maybe I will meet you guys if you become students...

I also want to add how awesome the clinicals have been. We're taking community over the summer, and we are assigned/are given as a choice as to what we want to do for these clinicals, and so far, they have some really fun and exciting things in which we can participate. I'm really happy with the program, overall.

Has anyone else gotten acceptance letters? I'm getting really nervous, I haven't heard anything since the initial email saying they received my application. Also, if you have been accepted would you mind sharing your GPA/background?

My GPA was a 3.6. My bachelor's was in Psychology (with a minor in Philosophy). I had about 4 years' experience working in a group home/as a case manager with the developmentally disabled population.

Mindylane, what do students do for health coverage while in the program? Does the school offer any healthcare as a student or do we have to get private insurance on our own?

Mindylane, you said there were scholarship opportunities. How can I find out more about that?

I just got my acceptance letter!!! I am on cloud 9!!!!! :) Hawaii to the east coast is going to be a crazy transition...

Congrats!! I don't know the exact date.... but I'm still waffling because of the price. It's pretty intense -- $83,434. Ahhhhh!!

I believe classes begin on August 28th, but I'm not sure. There is a mandatory orientation that is 4 days long...from August 21-23 and the 26th. So I imagine classes will start after the orientation is complete.

Hey Dessi,

Yes, they do offer health insurance! I think it's about $1700 for the year.
