  1. I'm graduating from an ABSN program at George Washington University in December and I am moving back home to Portland immediately after. I am also planning on applying to the ED residency programs at OHSU and Legacy...but Legacy's application process doesn't open until the spring and I'm not sure when OHSU's is going to be open again. I'm kind of having similar thoughts as you Wrodblow - should I apply to a bunch of other programs that I'm not really crazy about around the Portland/Salem/Eugene area? Or should I wait it out and go for what I really want... If you took the job at McKenzie-Willamette, please let us know how it's going! Maybe it's something I should consider as well. Anyway, best of luck to you!
  2. Hi everyone! For all of those who were admitted to the program and are in the Cohort 6 blackboard group, have you been able to find the roommate discussion board? It says the discussion link should be under the BSN Student Community but I can't find it. I just wanted to ask before I called the school to make sure I'm not going crazy Also, has anyone started a FB group for our class? Or would anyone be interested in me starting one? Let me know- Good luck to everyone on the waiting list still waiting to hear!
  3. LeftAtrium--yes, they email you. Good luck to you and the others who are still waiting!! :)
  4. Yeah, Mindylane is right, it shouldn't be that expensive unless you're factoring in everything else. There's also the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program... Loan Repayment Program so even though it is definitely going to be hard for while--financially speaking--there are definitely ways for us to get through it! Zoklaw--I'm not sure what they did for everyone else, but I received an email... nothing in the mail. Stay positive though!!! I literally just heard a couple days ago and some other applicants heard weeks ago. Stay positive, no news is good news Also, I have never been to D.C/Virginia and I have absolutely no idea what to expect...is the public transportation good around the area we will be or will I need a car?
  5. And Congrats SarahK, that's great news!! Good luck to you!!
  6. Yeah, lol they definitely could have worded it better...and there were numerous typos in the letter as well. Funny that such a highly regarded, top ranked program would send something out without proof reading. But I'm just being bitter . My undergrad GPA wasn't the greatest, I have a 3.54 so that definitely did not help. I was just accepted into George Washington University this morning though, so for the rest of you who didn't get into OHSU's accelerated program, I would definitely recommend checking out GWU's. The application process is through NursingCAS and they seem to really focus on other factors besides your GPA. I'm pretty sure they have a spring cohort too so you can probably apply right around now if you're interested! Good luck!!!:)
  7. Also, does anyone know the exact date in August that the program starts?
  8. I just got my acceptance letter!!! I am on cloud 9!!!!! :) Hawaii to the east coast is going to be a crazy transition... Good luck to those of you still waiting, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  9. Ariana--I also got the same email. 4.0 in my pre reqs, various international medical volunteer experience assisting in surgeries and translating in medical clinics, CNA certified, I'M SO DISCOURAGED! Their message was such a low blow too, "it is highly unlikely that your file will be chosen for review," lol it felt more like a slap in the face than anything. Did you apply anywhere else?
  10. Hey Tinker-- I just received a letter with my transfer credits as well, everything has a TR by it so it looks like all my credits transfer...but how soon after did you receive an acceptance letter? I don't know if this means that I am most likely going to be accepted or if it doesn't really mean anything...or what?
  11. Aloha-- I'm a student at University of Hawaii and I feel like I am completely stuck right now. I currently have a 3.5 GPA..but I have had between a 3.8-4.0 for the last 4 semesters (I started off college on the wrong foot) and I have a 3.9 in my nursing pre-req courses. I graduate in May with a degree in Family Resources. I've had international medical volunteer experience in Peru and Guatemala, and have completed CNA1 training. I thought this would definitely help set me apart from other applicants but apparently, so far, it hasn't made much of a difference. I've read in a lot of these blogs that most applicants to ABSN or MEPN programs have this type of background as well...PLUS a 4.0 cumm GPA. I applied to 4 nursing schools this year, both MEPN and ABSN programs and have already been rejected by 2 (Oregon Health Sciences University's ABSN program and University of Hawaii Manoa's MEPN program) and am waiting to hear back from George Washington University & Union University (both ABSN programs). I am starting to get really anxious, I feel like my GPA is just too average...I am wondering if anyone knows of any ABSN/MEPN programs out there that have a more holistic approach when reviewing their applicants. Also, I would love to hear back from anyone who is in the same boat and hear what your situation is and what you are planning to do about it... If I don't get accepted anywhere for the 2013-14 school year, should I keep taking classes to boost my GPA? Should I do another international volunteer program? Should I just stay home and work as a full time CNA? Should I try to get into a Community College Program and bridge my way up? What would give me a leg up over other applicants? Any advice, guidance, constructive criticism would be more than appreciated!
  12. Has anyone else gotten acceptance letters? I'm getting really nervous, I haven't heard anything since the initial email saying they received my application. Also, if you have been accepted would you mind sharing your GPA/background?
  13. I applied to the ABSN program and I haven't heard anything either. I check the mail like ten times a day, all of the programs I applied to seem to be taking forever to get back to us...so nerve-racking
  14. Hey guys, I've been following this thread for a while and just finally decided to make an account. Anyway, I haven't heard anything yet either, I applied for the fnp so just wanted to say good luck to all of you who haven't heard!! Also, I have seen a lot of people who are worried about accumulating so much debt from student loans...I'm not an expert on the topic but I do know there are state and federal programs that help you pay them back...such as the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program
