ADN in an approved school, can I transfer to get my BSN?

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

So... I am doing my ADN to become an RN at a private school in my area. They are an accredited school overall, but the nursing program is APPROVED. After seeing that so many hospitals prefer BSN, I am worried that my credits aren't transferable? Anyone have success stories for me? Did EVERYONE go to a state college or University? HELP :(

I think as long as they are regionally accredited most if not all credits should be transferrable. I've been looking into online schools so I've learned a thing or two but don't know anybody who did that and is employed at the moment though.

What's important is what accreditation your school has. Are you talking about a private-for-profit school? Many of them are "accredited," but they're accredited by an organization created and operated by the for-profit schools, that only accredits for-profit schools, not the regional accrediting organization that accredits "regular" colleges and universities in your area. If that is your situation, you may have difficulty transferring your credits to a "regular" (for lack of a better term) college or university.

Best wishes for your journey!

Contact the school you wish to transfer to, and an adviser there should be able to tell you if credits will transfer. Not every school will accept credits obtained at other schools. Plus, most schools will want you to obtain certain credits and/or a certain amount of credits at their facility, before they will graduate you.

Thank you everyone!

I wrote an article about this very same issue last month. Yes, there are accredited nonprofit schools that will accept your nonaccredited college credits. Click on the link below to read more.
