- Jun 27, '05 by grannynurse FNP studentQuote from tiggerloverWhat you refer to as a health visitor is generally known as a home health nurse. Here in Florida, one does not need a degree in public health, only a license as a RN or LPN. There are county Health Departments but they generally provide only basic health care and I do mean basic. You can find out by going to the couny website you plan to live in. Suggest you start working on your Florida license first.Hi i am a british nurse currently working in NICU, have a diploma in nursing, Bsc in midwifery and Bsc in specialist practice-Public Health (health visiting) previously worked as a health visitior hoping to move to the US, Florida and wondered if anybody could give me some information on working in public health in that state? Click on the link on the left hand side that says nursing. From there you should be able to access the online app. If you have any questions, let me know. - Mar 17, '06 by cmspedsrnQuote from tiggerloverTHE FL DEPT OF HEALTH'S WEB SITE IS WWW.MYFLORIDA.COMdo you happen to have to department of health for floridas website address as i'm finding it hard locating it.
I WORK FOR THE HEALTH DEPT AS A CARE COORDINATOR, CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER -- I HAVE A CASE LOAD OF OVER 200 CHRONICLLY ILL, SPECIAL NEEDS AND DYING CHILDREN. CMS IS FOR VERY SICK CHILDREN. MOST OF WHICH ARE ON MEDICAID, BUT NOT ALL. WE DO NOT GET PAID WELL FOR THIS JOB. BUT NO NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, OR HOLIDAYS.
GOOD LUCKexnavygirl-RN likes this. - Apr 1, '06 by SunqueenI don't think there is a US equivilant to a Health Visitor. I had my first daughter in England and second in the US. I really missed the health visitors advice and visits the second time around. Home Health nursing is nothing like Health Visiting and not even really like District Nursing.
Do you know where in Florida you want to live. I have just interviewed for a School Nurse position and here in Broward county that is a Board of Health position. I know they staff the free clinics in the county and have full time nurses working at the Health Dept. in fort Lauderdale. - Apr 1, '06 by grannynurse FNP studentWhat is known as Public Health Nursing or District Nursing, in England, is what I did when I was a nurse with the Brooklyn Visiting Nurses Association. We did home visits, monitoring the health and care of post op patients, medical patients, chronically ill children, pre and post patum visits, well baby assessments, to name a few. It was not unusual to pick up another patient during a home visit. Or to do health teaching to neigbors, sitting on their stoop. What is available, here in Florida, today is nothing like what I use to do. It doesn't even come remotely close.
