Specialties Psychiatric

Hi, I have been working part time in psych for the past year! I absolutely love what I do. However, like I said its only a part time position. My company does not have any full time positions available, - its a good place to work, and nurses don't leave. I pick up extra shifts very often and also work as the Admissions RN at times. Since this position is only every other weekend, I took a job recently in dialysis (6 months ago to be exact).. Though my dialysis job is considered "full time", I only make 48hr biweekly. I'm finding that I don't enjoy dialysis as much as my psych job. The good news? I was offered a full time job in a totally different hospital FULL TIME.. (geropysych!) full time as in 40hrs a week! I really want to accept this position however I feel so very guilty putting in a resignation letter with dialysis after only 6 months! ugh... What would you do?

In the end, you have to do what's right for you. I understand not wanting to leave a current position after not being there for very long but you still have to look out for yourself. If you think that you're going to be happy in this new job and it's what you want, then take it. You might regret it if you don't. :)

It sounds like you are excited for the geropsych job. Based on your situation, I would probably take that job-- but I personally wouldn't be able to make it with only 24hr/pay a week. What are the positions/facilities like that you are/would be working at?

The full time position I was offered is a brand new facility in my area, so Im not familiar yet with the culture of the place. I was hired as a per diem, but now they have offered me full time. Its a 36 bed facility acute stay. Yes I am excited-- not only the full time, but as mentioned I think I truly found my niche in psych! I already applied for a Masters Program next year, speciality- Psych of course. Yes the 48hr biweekly has been difficult, which I why I pick up so many extra shifts at my part time psych facility. I will attend orientation this week at the new facility, then I would learn more about the day to day operations, culture of the facility. Im looking forward to this very much. Thank you for your responses!!

Maybe you can keep the dialysis job as PRN or Part-time.
