Should I report this agency to the BBB?

I responded to a craigslist ad in November when I was looking for a private duty job and I had a telephone interview with this agency. They wanted me to come in to have an orientation, so I did. They advertised "paid orientation" and a "$2000 sign on bonus". I also gave them $10 for a background check. I wasted my whole day there because they apparently "lost" the case I was supposed to be hired for and totally blew me off:mad:. They never paid me for my orientation which the fine print in my employee handbook said it would be paid after working 40 hours. The sign-on bonus was a crock. If you work 500 hours you get an extra 500 dollars X4 times. And I went to pick up my background check (for another employer) 2 months later and apparently they never ran it.. but offered to because they saw in my file that I paid for it. I wonder how many other nurses paid for background checks that never got ran. They seemed like they were running an assembly line in there so I imagine that extra money could ad up for them. It really T's me off!:mad:

I would not bother with the BBB. Instead, lodge a complaint with The Consumer Affairs agency for your state and The Attorney General's Office for your state.

The BBB info. on a business is easy to access though. I would want to warn other people that they have a complaint. Also, the BBB might help me get paid for that day since they help resolve complaints.

Filing a complaint with the BBB will only help if the business is a member of the BB even then the BBB protects their own.

I think that is really horrible of them to do that to you. I have had nothing but great experiences with BBB. It doesn't hurt to try them and also try Consumer Affairs as mentioned above. I wish you luck and hope that they get what's coming to them. Keep me posted.

Report them to the State Dept of Health. Hopefully that will trigger an audit. That's the sort of thing an agency wants to avoid at all costs.

At the time of being handed the employee handbook, you were already in orientation. Sounds like a modification of contract.

The employee handbook was part of the paperwork packet given to me in orientation. Didn't see the 40hrs rule until after I got home. Please elaborate.. what is a "modification of contract".

I have a duplicate of the time card I signed, barely legible though. I dont know if it would stand up in court, nor would I want to go there for 100 bucks. The background check fee that went unchecked urks me more than anything. If I hadn't followed up they would have just kept my money. I'm starting to really hate agencies. It seems like its a big run around.

Agencies can be a pain in the rear, but find a good one and you have a great employer.

If you still have the advert, I'd consider taking them to small claims court to recover the "paid orientation" money and the $10 for the BG check that they never did.

The BBB is a waste, IMO.
