I have been on this case for 6 months. Finally there is another nurse to pick up extra hours .

Mom has decided she wants the nurses to drive her kids to school,. I am blown away. The new nurse called the agency and informed me that the agency said that that would be fine if we signed a waver. I just cannot believe that this sounds ok, Signing a waver so if we are in an accident is bad enough , but also being responsible for the families other child is over the top. The school bus stops in front of the clients home. agreed to get her up to catch the bus and nothing more, I love my kiddo but this seems over the top, I would like input please ,may need to turn in notice this week

I would turn in my notice. Simple as that. Now to find another case or another employer. No agency has ever insisted that I provide transportation in my private vehicle. As a matter of fact, they have forbid it.

thanks for your input .I feel totally abused by the fact that my agency has hung me out to dry . I felt the only answer they should have given was no ,we are not babysitters or nannies. No offence to either .

My client is pushing me to do uncompensated babysitting again. She is taking advantage of me big time. I have told her that I can not legally give her an extra two or three hours on X day, then leave early two or three hours on Y day, but she seems to think that I can and I should. So, that leaves me in the catbird seat. Do I tell the agency to put a stop to it? Anyway you look at the situation, I will be the one without a job. The clients learn to manipulate us so well.

This client is the same way ,She has it in her head that the nurses need to come in early and stay late so she will not need to pay a babysitter.These same families that always try to get more out of their nurses than is legal are the first to try to accuse you of all kinds of crazy things, Then they cannot get any PRN nurses to fill holes in their schedule. But calling my agency is not going to help my situation because the new nurse coming into the house has already done this . I can just see this client suing me if I was in an accident taking her kids to school.

I guess I was lucky when I did private duty through an agency. The only odd thing one client asked me to do was watch the Dialing for Dollars movies with her and then watch The Price is Right. She'd get mad if I didn't holler out the prices!

That is too cute! You were lucky! You haven't lived though, until you've sat through 3 or 4 hours of telenovelas every night! I understood them - but the drama in their lives! :uhoh21: I thought AMC was bad . . .

To the OP - yes, it's ridiculous. I'd certainly be reading the fine print on the waiver! Your auto insurance company may take a dim view of that errand as well. I haven't encountered agencies asking me to babysit, clean up after other family members or other chores not related to the client but the economy - for both agencies and nurses will cause people to do things they don't want to just for that paycheck. I so hope it turns around soon.

I would never sign a waiver. What you are not told is this: if you use your car while on the job, your insurance company will probably not cover any accident should you have one. The reason is your are not covered for using your car in business. However, because your are driving the children to and from school the agency is totally responsible because it is part of your job and they have authorized it. Now, if they are trying to get you to sign a waiver stating that you are doing this on your own time, that you will not be paid for it or reimbursed for the mileage/gas, then that waiver might let them off the hook as far as worker's comp and auto insurance liability. Clearly, the agency does not understand the prediciment it is placing itself in when it is allowing a nurse to transport her charge.

I am sure there is no insurance billing for driving non-patient kids to school. If you do and they are billing, its fraud. If you do it and do not include it in notes, its not ethical.

Just say "no".
