Worried about starting Nursing School with a baby

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I'm finishing up my AA Degree at my local community college. I recently just graduated high school (June 2016) and have a 6 month old baby girl. I'm 19 years old and live with my 6 month old daughter and fiancé. We rent from my parents and I work at a small mom & pop restaurant right up the street for a little over two years working 4 days a week (Thursday, Friday night, Saturday & Shnday) and almost putting in 30 hours a week. I am full time in school finishing up my pre-reqs for nursing. Spring 2017 I will finish my last pre-req (Micro Bio.) now that you have a little background information, here's my question. I'm planning on apply for the nursing program at my school for admission next August (2017). By then, my daughter will be about 1 1/2 years old. For all you ladies or men who are in nursing school, how hard was it if you have a little one(s) and holding down a job to pay bills? Right now I'm doing GREAT! I have a 98% in AP1 and As in my other classes! I'm full time. I'm just worried about clinicals and the hours you have to dedicate to school. Not so much the studying, but the 6am- 4pm or 1pm-11pm shifts for school. How do you guys manage? I have a strong support system with his parents to watch her for us, but they run their own cleaning business and I'm not sure if they could ALWAYS watch her with crazy clinical hours/locations. I was wondering about daycare, but thought it would not fit in our budget (we're on a fixed income). I would love to hear how you guys manage so I can have a game plan! Thanks in advance. Oh, PS, I'm new to this site, first post!! :)
