Will a certificate in genomics and microscopy help me get into UCSF?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

While completing my nursing pre-requisites, I am very tempted to get a certificate in microscopy and genomics. I am a mid-career changer and am a bit nervous about weather or not I will get into nursing school because the Bay Area is such a competitive market and they look at cumulative GPA including 20+ years ago poor GPA from B.A. and MBA degrees. I have a 3.7 in my nursing prerequisites, but it may not be good enough to offset my poor performance from before.

Anyway, will these certificates make me more competitive because medicine seems to be heading towards biotechnology and stem cells, DNA tests, and etc.?

If I can get an internship with these biotech certificates in cancer research dealing with pre-op biopsy patients and stuff. I am sure that will look good on my application in addition to regular volunteer service.

I am rambling. It's late. Thanks for your input!
