IA critical care work valued?
Hi, I'm a new grad and couldn't get into a nurse residency program, so I am going to start working at a critical care hospital. It is a hybrid between a long-term care SNF and a hospital ICU. thesecarecICU patients who's insurance doesn't cover long term ICU care, or hospitals who need to free up space in their ICUs. Should I work there for a year or 2, is this kind of experience good for getting a job at an acute care medical center? Thanks, Jeneaux

Am I too old to be get into a Nurse New Grad program?
I am a career changer and hense and older new grad. I am wondering if I should remove my first undergrad degree to appear younger on my resume. I look, behave and feel a lot younger than I am. What are your thoughts? They say that there is no age discrimination, but I think there probably is, informally. What are your thoughts?

UCLA New Grad RN Fall 2021
How did your interview go? How did you find out about the UCLA nurse residency program. It seems like it is hard to find out about the programs at the UCs, so I am also applying out of state. Please let us know how the interview goes the kinds of questions.

CSU Stanislaus Spring '15 applicants?!
I've heard nothing but terrible things about CSU Stanislaus, particularly the ASBSN program. Attend at your own risk, and only if you can't get into another program. They are poorly ranked anyways. A waste

Help! I want to drop out of my accelerated program!
People should know what they are getting themselves into. If you ar. Ft Lardner and do well on the quarter system, with ex lent time management skills, and the total drive, than it will work for you. You have to be totally honest with your self. If you are lacking in any of these points I just made, then you should probably opt for a traditional program. I did extremely well under a semester program when I took my prerequisites, however, being in this program is kind of strange. A lot of the professors although very competent nurses andvery nice, are not necessarily good teachers. So you must contend with the teachers shortage in the nursing in school industry. This is difficult if you are expecting a certain level of competence and educational proficiency.I am learning the hard way, and my grades are suffering because of it. Sure, I will get through the program but I would like to have options there after. Because no matter how you put it grades do matter.

I am exploring options legal nurse consultant?
What does it take to become a legal nurse consultant? I am not super crazy about the day- to-day nursing, so I want to use my BSN when I get it, in unique ways. I plan on working for a while, but want to combine nursing with my business background. Any ideas? Thanks

Help! I want to drop out of my accelerated program!
Help! I'm in an accelerated program but am thinking of dropping out. I opted for this type of program due to my age and wanting to start a new career. I also thought that I wanted to be in a faster paced program, but now that I am in it, I find it to be a bit overwhelming. I am wondering if another school would allow a transfer from an accelerated program into a regular 2 year program? Do schools do this, or would I have to re-apply and start from the beginning? If so, I assume I would have to let them know that I was previously in an accelerated program-- which would make me "an accelerated program drop out." I am exhausted and unable to focus right now. I just got back a poorly written assignment that, at the time of submission, thought looked OK. I now realize how bad it was and realize that I must have been more tired than I had thought I was when I was working on it. It took me a long time to complete the assignment, too. It was really bad. I did OK the first quarter, and am "hanging in there" this term, but I am not sure that I will be able to maintain my grades given the pace and my inability to focus because I am sleep deprived and have been sleep deprived for the past 7 weeks. Perhaps it is my age, or my learning style which takes a bit longer than the demands of the course. I am experiencing two things: stress from the pressure to get good grades and trying to stay on top of the schedule because the program is moving very fast. I am debating whether or not I should drop out of the quarter with 4 weeks left, or should I finish the term and then withdraw after the grades have been submitted? At least this way I can present myself as having been in good standing. Can anyone offer any suggestions about SFSU's program and the General Masters for NP program at UCSF? I woluld be interested in other schools. I suspect that UCSF is pretty fast paced. How are the programs at these schools? Do nursing schools accept people who have withdrawn from another school? I am feeling frustrated and overwhelmed at the moment. I am also feeling exhausted, but too exhausted to sleep and I have to study for an exam in a couple of days, so I will go back and hit the books, hoping I can retain it all. Thanks.

I don't like my BSN program
I don't like my accelerated BSN program, primarily because I feel like I'm being treated like a high school student due to the writing assignments they demand, and the way they want them written per the grading rubric. So, I'm thinking about applying to a general master's program where I feel I'll be treated like an adult. I've written plenty of papers Ina's my previous job was a research analyst at a bank. Do you think it would be worth the additional time it will take to reapply to schools since I'm nearly 50 years old? I'm extremely frustrated, and turned down other schools. I'm also thinking of physician assistant programs.

Not happy at my nursing school
It's only been a month, but I'm not happy in my excellerated program. I just looked up the ranking and it is lower than 2 schools that I got into, one, which is Samuel Merritt. I am thinking of applying to Univ of Minnesota because it's in an urban environment with a late application deadline they are ranked relatively high at 21. I'm looking for a 3 year program so I can go straight into an NP program. I'm not sure I like the teaching style, being that I seems to have to rely on a lot of nstrction from fellow classmates. I do try to wait until the teachers can come by and ask questions and I try to stay late towards the end of lab. is this typical?

Having doubts about being a nurse
Hi, This is only my first week in nursing school however, I am having second doubts about entering this profession. Now that I know more about what a nurse actually does--and let's face it, it can be rather gross and disgusting to do some of these things that they are required to do. Such things as putting in an airway tubes, inserting catheter or cleansing wounds and things like that. Although I admire people who can do these important tasks, I'm just not sure it's right for me. Ultimately I want to be more of a medical professional such as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. I'm now thinking that I should've waited a year and applied to physician assistant school to see if I could get in. I got accepted to three nursing schools and my first choice (due to location) I did not get in because the nursingCAS is messed up my application. Another issue is that physician assistant programs want you to have at least 1000 hours of work or serious volunteer experience. I would appreciate any insights from either student nurses who are advanced in their program or actual nurses to get a sense of what it's like to tend to patients and do these rather invasive procedures. Do you just get used to it, or is there always some sort of gross out factor involved? Thanks!

Finance Degree + MSN?
It's hard to get a job in finance unless just out of school. It's hard to maintain a job on Wall Street as it's an unstable environment. After age 45 they usually don't want you. Nursing is more stable. Business is fun, but not stable.
