What made you choose nursing?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

The reason I've decided to pursue nursing is two-fold. I have many family members that are nurses. Some chose nursing as their first (and only) career, and others went back to school in adulthood. I've always found it a fascinating profession. The second reason I have decided to pursue nursing was due to my involvement in a rescue operation at a boating accident last year. I ended up being one of the first on scene to a deadly crash. I walked away from that day with a deeper appreciation for life in general and a strong desire to actually HELP people. I'm currently taking pre-reqs and am hoping to start a BSN program in a couple years (I work a very busy FT job and will only be able to take 1 or 2 pre reqs a semester.) How do you know that becoming a nurse is the "Right" thing to do?

Thanks for any thoughts!!

I've wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember. I had my kids really young so family has been my priority (I have four boys and one girl). Once my youngest (my daughter) was born with a rare syndrome (chromosome disorder) and my sister has had kidney failure I have really wanted to pursue the nursing degree even more. I have all my pre-reqs done and am just waiting to get my letter (should be here any day now)!! I am going to an ADN program and then plan to get my BSN.

My dad told me that I was gonna be a nurse; I didn't have any say in the matter. It was like the book of Genesis where "in the beginning....." Well, my dad said it, and it was so. Back in those days, we HAD to listen to our folks. We couldn't smart-mouth with the threat of dialing 911 if our folks so much as thought of knocking the taste out of our mouths. Two reasons for that: #1: there were no child protection laws. #2: there were barely any phones! So nearly 30 years later, I'm still here because my parents are still alive.:roflmao:

My story is probably not so noble, either. Since my first biology class I've been fascinated by the human body. During high school I was trying to figure out where to go to college and what I wanted to study. Nursing sort of jumped out at me. I started researching, shadowed some nurses, and made the leap. I told myself if I didn't like my first A&P class then I would change majors to something else. I have an interest in history as well, so I thought about that. Whew, glad that didn't happen! I loved my A&P class, I've loved every science and nursing class since, and the more I read about nursing and see nurses in action the more I want to be one.

hi guys,

i wanted a shift in career and did not know wat career, then suddenly one day i came across nursing program and searched all about it.

i just took a brief look at anatomy and physiology, it was intersting than anything else even though hard to remember but u feel good wen you study it. i repented that why nursing was not my first choice wen i was to choose a career and i did bachelors in other field.

like many other good nurses, i also want to become a good nurse so that wen i deal with any patient that patient is so satisfied with my service and happy. i am happy that i will get a career also and will at the same time serve the community. i know nursing school is hard but i am ready to go thru it after completing the pre-reqs. and serve the community like all other nurses do.

hope god be with all of us during our time at nursing school and we all do good job in the school.
