Western Carolina (WCU) ABSN Fall 2018

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I am applying to WCU's absn program for Fall 2018 entry. I just wanted to see if anyone else is applying out there and wanted to start this thread. Also, does anyone know the format requirements for the cover letter?

Thank you!

I'm applying!

I don't know if there is a format for the cover letter but I'll ask on Wednesday and post.

It's good to connect with someone who is applying to this program. What drew you to it?

I'm applying as well. Although I'm applying to other schools, WCU is my first choice. The curriculum is what really drew me to the program. It's 4 hours away from where I currently live but think it's worth the move. Good luck to those applying!

I am putting together a list of questions to ask today in person. I have a meeting this afternoon. Let me know if there is anything you're wondering about!

Is the cover letter like a personal statement? Is that the expectation they have?

I met with one of the people who will be conducting the actual interviews and we talked for a full hour. Phew!

Yes, it's like a personal statement. Just be sure to cover all of the points listed on the application. They want to hear your "nurse's voice." I gathered that the cover letter is a place to explain how your experiences have led you to choose nursing. The first thing she said about it is to give it to other people and ask them what stands out the most. Make sure that whatever stands out is what you want to convey. There isn't a particular format they expect - you can choose your own. Generally, 2 pages for the resume and 2 pages for the cover letter are what they expect.

It was nerve-wracking knowing I was talking with one of the interviewers but I got through it. The person who usually meets with prospective students is no longer there, so the person I met with wasn't accustomed to talking with prospective students.

I'm applying to only one other program as a backup, so my eggs are pretty much in this basket. I would apply to others but I simply can't move right now (I live in Asheville). Luckily, WCU has everything I'd want in a program but it's the most competitive one in WNC.

Thanks for sharing! That is a lot of valuable information!!

For those that submitted/mailed their applications, are we suppose to send an email confirming that it was sent and the date that it was sent? I feel like I read this somewhere but now I can't find it. I think I'm losing my mind between all the programs that I'm applying for lol.

I am applying as well. Thanks for starting the group and wish everyone my best!

I'm getting ready to mail out my packet. fingers crossed.

I believe we are supposed to watch our email for notification that they received our application within 2 weeks of sending it in.

I got invited to interview today by email. The interviews are in groups of 3 on April 2nd and 3rd. Good luck to everyone!!

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything yet? I interviewed on the 2nd. Good Luck.
