UCLA Nursing Program

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey! Is anyone by chance presently at a CA Community College and/or was a transfer student from a CA Community College into the UCLA program? I am curious about their Chem & Math requirements on Welcome to ASSIST I am mapped out for Bio & Organic Chem & Stats, which meets and exceeds other programs in the State & UC systems. But according to Assist, I may not meet the requirements. I will talk to my transfer counselor Tues, but just curious if anyone has already had these questions, or if UCLA really just has different requirements from everyone else. Thank you!

Yes! I was really serious about attending UCLA until I realized that the cost of living in Los Angeles would be impossible for me to tackle along with school. I ended up talking on the phone with a nursing admissions officer. It wasn't easy to get a hold of someone but worthwhile of you have questions about applying. Make sure you aren't looking at the accelerated program prerequisites. I made that mistake initially and was blown away by what I thought they were expecting for BS applicants. This is the page for normal transfer prerequisites Admissions Requirements | UCLA School of Nursing. They do want more chemistry and higher level math, but I think that makes sense given UCLA's reputation compared to state schools. Just a side note, I did't see you mention Calculus, which they also require for nursing applicants. My understanding, based on the link above and Assist.org is that they DO NOT require Statistics. "Just" Calculus.

Yes! I was very set on attending UCLA until I realized how incredibly expensive Los Angeles is and that I wouldn't be able to afford to live there while in school. I did a good deal of research regarding the prereqs and spoke on the phone with a nursing admissions officer. Not easy to get a hold of someone, but worthwhile if you have questions about applying. I wonder if you might be looking at the wrong prereqs. I know that for a while, I was discouraged because I was looking at the prereqs for the prelicensure program, which are different from the BSN program. I am confused about you saying they wants Stats, though, since the BSN webpage and Assist.org both state that Calculus is the only math requirement. They do want Gen Chem and O Chem, so if you're on track for those courses, that's great. The only other UC with a BSN program is UC Irvine, and their prereqs are even more rigorous than UCLA's in my opinion. They both want more from you that the state schools, but that makes sense given that they are UCs and they both have really solid reputations when it comes to medicine.

Thanks ladies! I meant that I am planning to complete stats, not that the UC's require it. I am going to call them on Monday, since I have not heard back from my email I sent them. I'll let ya know what they said!
