This Is My Goal

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Good morning from CT everyone!

Ok, so I just wanted to share my goal for the next year or two. If I was smart, I would have graduated HS and just got my BSN and been done with it. Where I'm at now, is still pretty much no excuse to accomplish anything in life. However, I'm going to be 23 and really need a game plan for being a big boy now lol

Option #1:

Find a job as a new CNA, figure out schedule to work school into. If possible, take classes spring 2014, pre-reqs for nursing school. Next apply for RN school, which will take me until end of 2014 to even apply and won't find out until April 2015 if I get accepted.

OR

Just take all required classes to transfer over into a BSN program...which I don't know the timeline when it begins.

Working full-time and school full-time? I've never attempted it, but I should stop being a baby. Anyone who lives in CT either? I'm thinking about Southern Connecticut State College too.

The reason I would just go for my RN is so I can get into a stable financial situation and work part time if needed. I got my CNA to get possible assistance through employers but to also land a job that might hire me on as a nurse in the future.

I'm just throwing out my thoughts. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

No matter where you think you'll end up, start taking the prereqs at a community college. Just verify they'll transfer to the 4-year school. Take the classes that you'll need for either the Associates or the Bachelors program. Community college is cheaper and the class schedules are more flexible.

Nursing programs are super competitive, whethere it's at a community college or university. Your goal shouldn't be just to take the classes... you need to get A's in the classes to have a good chance of being accepted.

Your right...I jump ahead of myself too quickly. I should just think one step at a time and focus on getting outstanding grades.

im trying to get into a hospital now to get some tuition reimbursement no luck. I cant afford to do cna class now to try and get a cna jobs ive just been applying clerical type hospital jobs :(

will wait til after my 1st semester of nursing school and then take cna test (you can do that instead of cna class ) hopefully I can land a job then I really want that experience.

advice do some pre reqs in the spring 2014 at a community college ....keep applying to cna jobs (the experience will be good in future and they will be flexible with school schedule ) after your pre reqs apply for the rn program .

23 is still young im 28 and have to re do everything in life so there is hope :)

Don't get discouraged. I'm 31, married, with 4 kids ranging in ages from 9 months up to 10 years, working part time and I'm a freshman LOL! Who cares how old you are, in 5 years you'll be 5 years older anyway, so may as well have some letters behind your name. ;)

I also started school a bit later (22). I worked full time in a service industry while doing my 1st year and a half of pre reqs. I ended up leaving my job this semester so I could take more classes (18credits!).

Working full time and going to school full time whole you're doing pre reqs is feasible. A lot of students do it and are successfull.

Also, if you already have your CNA, I would definitely consider working at least part time as that healthcare experience can prove to be invaluble when you are applying to school!
