Taking courses with no credit...

Let me just tell you where I am at right now...

I have decided on nursing, I am going to eventually get into a school that offers a LVN program. Then go to an LVN to RN program and so on. I cannot get my transcripts in time to start classes for my prereqs this August. I came across a school that seems great. They offer an A&P class that is required to get into their program as well as a good score on the HESI A2. They have two classes one for credit and one without credit. This non credit course is very affordable but does not count if I go to another school. I have been hearing how hard it is to get into nursing schools so, my question is...

Should I take the non credit course or wait until I can pay for my transcripts (I owe my last school money but do not have it I will be able to pay them off completely but not for a few months at least) to take the for credit course? Considering it takes awhile to get into these programs and I only have until January I was thinking about taking the course. And betting on getting into this school which has two campuses I may be able to get into...you think it's a bad idea? Please help

Take the course for credit. You will need this course/credit to transfer into a nursing program.

Non-credit classes are like auditing the class. Students who audit a class do not get a grade, are not required to take any tests, or even required to do any work.

The only reason I was considering it is because to get into that school you are only required to that that course with or without credit, and take the HESI with a score of 80 plus. I cannot get my transcripts to take a for credit course for a lease a month or two, because I still owe that school money (long ridiculous story). All the classes around here start next week! And I am coming into this too late, so either way it's a gamble. Because I might not be able to finish the basics required by the other school in time to apply in January I guess I am just going to have to do what I can, so that I don't have to wait two years to get into a school.

But if you plan to later go from LVN to RN as you said in the beginning, the non credit course is not going to transfer. Personally, I would wait and take a course that I can get credit for. Is this a private school? Have you checked their accreditation? Found out if you would even be able to transfer their credits to another school?

If I were you, I would stick it out for courses that will benefit you now, and later.

See if there is a way that they can just take a look at your unofficial transcript for the purposes of not repeating non necessary courses (I would gently point out that issue, particularly if they are giving you financial aid). And once the offical transcript is released, they would have it for the purposes of being in compliance with codes and regs.
