Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

So, I'm going to speak to a business advisor today at my university. I've been so anxious and stressed these past couple weeks, it's been ridiculous. I haven't been doing the best in my classes and failed math (I know). I plan on retaking it with a community college this upcoming semester though, and I'll also have to take biology since that was a C and I need a C+. It's just really difficult mentally because I know I can do better. I graduated high school as one of the valedictorians... This past year has taken a toll on me and I plan on appealing financial aid because I don't intend for anything to get worse, or even as bad as it was. Does anyone know if transient classes generally count toward your regular school's GPA? Also, I have credit for English and psychology, which are two of the pre-requisites needed for the pre-nursing program I want to get into and have taken all of my gen-ed classes except for an art. I still have to take all the science pre-req's (biology, chemistry, microbiology and A&P as well as statistics), does it sound realistic to set my goal for obtaining a BSN by 2016?

There is no standard way of calculating GPA requirements for nursing school admissions. Some may only count pre-requisites while others use a cumulative GPA (every course you have ever taken). Some will count only the highest grade obtained in any re-taken classes, others may average both grades (1st & 2nd) and others may not even allow you to submit grades for any re-takes. You'll need to check with each program to see what their policy is.

I don't have any idea what a "transient" class is, so I have no feedback on that question.

Based on the highly competitive nursing school admission process, I think your goal of BSN in 2016 is unrealistic. You are going to be competing with highly prepared students who have stellar GPAs and very high test scores - all seeking acceptance for a limited number of slots. If you are already (by your own admission) struggling and haven't yet attempted any of the hard sciences, I think you are going to have some real challenges ahead and may want to look into a Plan B if nursing school is not going to happen for you.

There is no way. I will be starting the program this fall and will graduate with my ADN in May 2016. The program itself is 2 years long. Like the previous poster said, nursing school is competitive and you really need an excellent GPA to get in. A "C" won't cut it. If you are on academic probation now, where you have to appeal to get financial aid, the chances are slim you will get in. I would talk to an advisor and see what you need to do to either get in the program or take another path. I also have no idea what a transient class is so I can't speak to that.

How did you come up with 2016 given that it is 2014 now and a BSN is a 4 year program? If all goes well, I will graduate with a ADN in December 2016. Have you done introspection to determine why you are doing so poorly in school?

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. I took classes in high school at two different community colleges and got a 3.8 at each. I have 59 credits so far, only 16 of which I received from my current state college. I sat down and thought about everything though, and I'm looking at a completely different path to becoming a midwife, which consists of me being in undergrad two years longer than I planned.
