Success at for a Pre-Nursing Student

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

I recently discover I want to be a nurse after taking clinical rotation in high school and was amazed the dedication of nurses. I had decide to take a semester off after graduating from high school. I plan to take Microbiology , College Algebra, and English at San Jacinto College next semester and next year take Anatomy and physiology. I want to become a CNA this summer to gain some experience. The problem is that I do not know how to study for science, math , and I suck at English that I almost did not graduate. I fear to take anatomy and physiology next year. I know I am not the smartest person in the room, but I firmly believe that anything can be complete through hard work and faith in God. I would appreciate any advice, links to help me for nursing or science, and tips. I would like to know how can I improve my writing skills for nursing since I can only write in a sixth grade level. I know that I can become a good nurse because I love to take of people and help them out. I will try to get accept into the ADN program at San Jacinto College or for BSN for Texan Woman University. Anything you guys are willing to give me. I would love to know how to get As in all the pre-req for science.

Some questions I would love to ask?

  1. How was your experience before, during and after the nursing program?
  2. What are some obstacles that you have to face?
  3. How can I study more for Science to get an A?

What I need to buy for Nursing School?

Where can I buy cheap textbooks and what books would you recommend to get for nursing?

how can I pass the Hesi and the TSI?

Thanks in Advance

Hi lovefaithandhope,

it is cool that you figured out what you want to do at a young age. for the sciences or any other class for that matter you should study often, daily if you can and also read relatively at a faster pace than your class schedule. This is so that you are slightly above and ontop of your game. There's so much info to read about , you don't want to cram all this reading even days before an exam. buy your books ahead of class and read through the first few chapters if you can. days before class sometimes professors post stuff on blackboard, school website for online stuff print these stuff out and mark your calendar for test, quiz dates, your reading schedule. also invest in a good quality voice recorder these will allow you to hear lecture again at home and you can fill in your notes with more detail and therefore you have a better understanding of things you may not have whole in class. Print out your power points if they are provided and write on them during class time. Ideally you should have already looked over the chapter that will be covered for class before class starts so you know what's going on. If you need help with anything you should seek immediate help from your professor, don't let the confusion settle too long. I'm not in nursing school yet though, just getting ready to apply in some time soon.since you need to take a test, buy the official study guide manual from the company that makes the test, this book will be important to have. The earlier you look at this book perhaps the better. Overall, I thought the science courses weren't extremely difficult, they are doable even with outstanding grades. Given that you are determined, work hard, and put in the time you can come out great

Some websites I found helpful were getbodysmart.com , innerbody.com

and there are some cool apps for the iPhone or android for anatomy. There's not too much to worry about for math, it's not calculus level( for the people going into hard core science fields, med school, engineering, etc). I think algebra is what community college adn programs require, but for BSN program you may have to take statistics(which isn't too hard either, although cleverness will help). For the English, you will go through at least two English courses that will satisfy general education for future transferring and they aren't hard either. You'll get better with the help of these two English classes. You'll get to write research papers! Don't put off assignments till the last minute.. I mean some do it and pull off great.. I think it's better to start earlier and gradually work on it so you have time. Don't be afraid of anatomy or physiology. Just keep going through your notes and studying, you will get it eventually.

Wishing you the best in your studies :inlove::bookworm:
