I am going to be finishing my FAFSA in a few days and will need to begin to apply for Stafford Loans.

How exactly does one apply for the Federal Unsubsidized/Subsidized Stafford Loan???

I that Private loans would go through a bank.

Filling out the FAFSA accurately and completely is all one needs to do. If you indicated on your FAFSA that you would like to apply for loans (as the FAFSA is used to determing eligibility for loans, grants and work-study), they will determine if you are eligible for Stafford loans, either subsidized or unsubsidized.

When you receive your financial information from the school that you will be attending, they will communicate how much you are eligible to receive. They will send you very detailed documents where you can select if you wish to take out the loans or decline.
