San Francisco State University - SFSU - Generic Masters Program 2009 !!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I had previously posted this, but no responses? Maybe I placed it in the wrong category. If you applied for 2009, let me know.

I am patiently awaiting April to come.

I just wanted to start a thread for all those who applied to the 2009 GMSN program at SFSU. I did. Look at my stats, tell me yours, your story, etc.

Im really excited!

GPA- 3.6

Pre-Reqs GPA- 3.8

Actual Nursing Courses GPA (Previously in a RN program)- 3.8

Worked at a hospital during my first & second year in nursing school.

How was the competition for the previous years? Any stats?

I had to drop out of nursing school, but now it is one of my hugest regrets and I am trying to get back to get my Masters!!! I am a single mommy with a two-year old son, hoping that this will provide US with the life we both deserve.

Hope to hear from you all really soon!

:heartbeat:redpinkhe:redbeathe:yeah:

Latest update- I went by the nursing department today- decisions have been made- the department has sent their decisions to the admissions office whom will then process them and mail out letters. Another week or 2 knowing SFSU. Almost there!!

I received a decision letter today. It appears they are splitting the class into two sections. One starts in Fall 09, the other in Spring 2010. I was accepted for Spring 2010 entrance. The letter does not state how students are chosen for each cohort. CSU Sacramento did something similar with their ASBSN program with the top 20 students starting sooner. I assume this is the case here, but my letter does specifically say I am scheduled for public health/ community nursing emphasis so the emphasis each student chose may play a role in start date.

They want decisions from students regarding their intent to enroll by May 22th (the actual intent form states the 26th as the deadline). This would have been a great program if it would have started this June. I will instead get a second bachelor's from Sacramento State. The time commitment (I, for example, would likely be taking classes until 2013) for this "generic" master's program is just too great.

Hi Jared,

Thanks for the notice and congratulations on your acceptance!

I'm anxiously waiting from sfsu!

Can I ask you what your general stats were?

gpa, experience?

Oh my- I have to go home and look in my mailbox!!! I will let everyone know ASAP.

remy110987,

You will probably get a letter today, but, if it helps pass the time: I had A's in all of the prerequisites. My undergraduate institution did not use letter grades so I had no GPA for my Bachelor's degree but did include all of the narrative evaluations-- some were stellar and others less so and a few were bad. I had 100 hours of volunteer time at a hospital but did not focus on that in my letter or application materials because it was a lame experience. I suspect my letters of recommendation were strong. I had a high GRE score which I sent to the school, but I do not think they considered it.

I hope you get a decision soon.

i just got my letter. i got in! they did a fake out and put it in a small envelope so don't freak out if you don't get a large package! i got into the fall cohort in the pediatric CNS emphasis. i also got into samuel merritts ELMS-CM program so now I have a decision to make. does anyone have any thoughts/advice on either program?

NO LETTER at all!!!

I haven't received anything yet either-

For anyone who has received a letter- has your admission status changed from "under department review" to "accepted" or anything? Thanks and congratulations!!:yeah:

carisamarie,

My status has not changed from "under department review." My letter came directly from the school of nursing so I do not think the graduate admissions committee has processed the decisions yet.

I hope something arrives for you soon.

my admission status didn't change either...

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted! I got my letter today as well and I got in for the Fall cohort under the Women's Health emphasis. I am SO excited and will be sending in my Intent to Register Form tomorrow! They must not be using the online system for intent forms b/c my status online still says "in departmental review". So if yours still says this and you haven't heard, I wouldn't lose hope just yet.

Anyone else doing the Fall cohort for women's health?

Thanks for starting this thread, I have been following it since i started working on my application. there is so little on the web about the program that I got advice for my essay from a 2008 posting on this site. Anyway we have all been in the same boat and i have been clenching my teeth as well and then today came a small envelope. I was nervous but I ripped it open and it was an acceptance to the spring 2010 public health emphasis. Is anyone else in this group? It would be great to know what books we should start studying to get a heads up. I agree with Jared, in some ways another bachelors would be great to be done with school! I
