Ready to start a career in nursing

Hi, my name is Rose and I'm 33. I originally went to school for business and have had the same job in sales for the last 8 years. I have recently enrolled in a 2 year RN program and will be taking chem. in January and probably anat. and phys. and maybe one other class. I am leaving my current job mid October to take nurses aide training classes and will be getting a CNA job while in school. I have already been in contact with a Human Resources manager at our local hospital and he told me he can get me in once I get my certification and will even help with my tuition if I work there for a year. I already have 13 out of 69 credits for the RN program from the first time I went to college. I am so excited for this change but a little nervous about telling my boss I am leaving my current job. I am looking for any tips / advice for starting a career in nursing. Thanks!

Hi Rose! I moved your post to the pre-nursing forum so that you can get the most feedback from others. Your plan sounds good! Is the nursing program at a community college? That is great that you will get tuition reimbursement.

I did the same thing at your age, previous finance degree, and I just graduated from UTMB a few weeks ago. I would be more than happy to answer any questions but your post is a bit general. Do you have any specific questions or can you narrow it down a bit?

Good luck to you - It was the best thing I ever did - I just got a job at Baylor in Dallas and you will be there soon too! If I can tell you anything it is to keep your eye on the prize, b/c it is hard, real hard.

Thank you! I am really just look for any general tips or advice from people who have switched careers or anyone in nursing really. You telling me it is the best thing you have ever done is what I was hoping to hear. I know it is the right thing to do, but I am just scared about leaving my current job. Thanks!
