Preparing Myself Financially & Mentally

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey, eveeeerryone!

Today I just submitted my application for nursing school. Wooh! A sense of relief, fulfilment, and happiness. I realized this is the first step towards getting "my happy life",my life of fulfilment, my sense of fulfilment, doing what I love, wanted, and dreamed of...being in medicine.THE DAY I, YES I DID SOMETHING THAT DEFINITELY WILL CHANGE MY LIFE AND MAKE MY FUTURE EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED!

Ok, enough of that lol, but I'm just happy! So, also today I had two job interviews. One at STAPLES working 3-4 days/week, 12p-7p shift, w/ flexibility & rotation & every other weekend off @ 8.25ph. Then, working at a doctor's office guaranteed 4days/week w/ weekends off. If accepted into the program I will be occupied this summer from 8-3. Moving on to the fall semester clinicals start! See my dilemma???:***::nailbiting:

And I don't know what to do or choose. As of now, I am an in-school tutor being paid 10.00 ph ranking in 9 hrs only. Hours are short due to the school system's classes dedicated to tutoring. So, this is crap, but good gas money. So, I have money in my saving's account and checking that will take care of me all year. However, I want income to steadily come in. Bills still have to be paid and rainy days are ahead! They never fail.

Help me choose my options. I want to be dedicated to my studies, while still making bank and getting sleep! Should I:

*Work @ Staples; where the schedule is flexible, work a minimum of 3 days and every other weekend off (12-7p). 8.25ph. Leaving applicable time for me to study and on days off I can get extra few bucks still tutoring from 12:30-3:30. 5 minutes from my house and school!! Both in reach if car breaksdown.

*Work @ Doctor's Office; Dream Job as a young undergrad bio student. 4 days/week (12-4). Weekends off. 8.00ph. Very Stress Free. Can get to know nursing staff and doctors easily. *Good recommendation letters for scholarships* Leaves time to study. Couldn't work in the summer or during fall semester of nursing.Would be out of reach if car broke down.

I know some of you say "no brainer". Not so much...HEEEELLLPPP:wacky::blackeye:

I understand exactly what you're going through. I had to make this choice recently as well. Working at a doctor's office seems to be everyone's dream job (or at least anyone who ever aspired to go into the medical field or just wanted a decent paying career), but if Staples would be more flexible and convenient for nursing school, wouldn't it be the safer choice? I just recently had to turn down an offer similar to your doctor's office job in an attempt to be practical. Starting this summer (same as you), I will not be able to work full-time but need a job now that pays well enough for me to save up enough money to be able to reduce my hours in the Fall. Could you do something similar? Have you found anything else in the healthcare field that is flexible but well paying? (Like CNA or nurse Tech, home health...etc. They are not very glamorous, but it's guaranteed work, decent paying, flexible hours that most likely won't interfere with nursing school, especially if you work night shifts where you are off your feet most of the time and can study! I'm doing it right now ;) ) In the end, you have to make the best decision for you. I'm young too, and we tend to want instant gratification and can't see very far past the here and now, but hey, at least we're responsible enough to plan for our futures and want something better, right?! ;)

I think sixela is right. Staples is more flexible. You need to be stress free!!

Staples definitely. I don't think doing paperwork in a doctors office is going to give you the connections you hope for. Plus if you can't work in fall and summer are they going to accommodate that? Staples will give you the flexibility you need.
