Has anyone taken A&P I & II together in one semester? I would like to hear actual experiences. My community college allows both to be taken together.

Good day:

I took them separate though I did take AP ii with Microbiology. If you love science and are fantastic in science, go for it; otherwise, I recommend taking them separately.

Thank you.

Thanks for replying. Do you think so, even though both the classes are currently up including all the assignments and lectures? Not sure if that makes a difference to some people but I think working ahead would make an impact.

I took them both in the same semester. Along with 3 other classes. It was extremely challenging and nerve wracking! I finished with an A in both though. You have to be ready to push yourself. My professor ( a neurology student) said it was good practice for nursing school. It can be done.

How did you manage? I signed up for both as well as ethics and medical terminology.

I just finished AP2 after taking AP1 over summer session. I'm sure it can be done and would obviously depend on what kind of student you are, but my advice would be to not take them together unless you absolutely have to. At least with my curriculum, AP2 expected you to know so much from AP1 as of day 1 that if you didn't already have the background knowledge it would be extremely confusing and hard to stay caught up. That being said if you have background in anatomy and physiology it may be easier for you to keep up with both classes. Another factor to consider is that just like with taking any two sciences at the same time you run the risk of all the tests and practicals being on the same day, which can be overwhelming to some students (as evidenced by some of my friends in AP2 who were taking physics or micro or chemistry). That being said you have a better idea of what you're capable of than any of us and whatever route you go best of luck!

I'm curious, why are you so determined to take them together? Obviously they aren't meant to be taken simultaneously. Your grades in these two classes are extremely important. You don't want to mess that up by taking them together. Like the previous poster stated, A&P 2 is based on knowledge you are expected to learn in A&P 1. You'll be lost in those areas. And in my opinion A&P 1 was much more difficult than A&P 2 but it is still a ton of info to learn. I would not take them together.

I was going to take A&P I and microbiology together but there are no more openings for micro.

From my understanding A&P I covers different material than A&P II. What type of information from A&P I did you need from A&P II? I figured if that was the case, they would make I a prerequisite for II.

At most schools you are required to take 1 before 2. Coming from a background in psychology I hadn't studied the bones or muscles since 4th grade over 10 years ago. It took a lot of studying alone in AP1 to learn every bone, every muscle, every organ, etc. and in AP2 it's expected you know all of that already and so much more. If you haven't learned all of the basics yet in AP1 how do you expect to do well in AP2? Do you absolutely need to take them together? How come you don't take 1 in the spring and 2 in the summer or fall? It's so important that you do well in these two classes and it's just too much of a risk to attempt to take them both at once, in my opinion.

My plan was to take II in the summer but I wouldn't do well taking micro, AP II and math together. I'm horrible at math but pretty apt at science so I don't want to risk taking two sciences and math at the same time. I'm going to school full time so the classes I need I split up between Spring and Summer.

I'm entirely willing to study and get as much help as possible. For both AP I and II, it is the same instructor so I think that'll help even more.
