A&P I & II

Published

Has anyone taken A&P I & II together in one semester? I would like to hear actual experiences. My community college allows both to be taken together.

Good day:

From my understanding A&P I covers different material than A&P II. What type of information from A&P I did you need from A&P II? I figured if that was the case, they would make I a prerequisite for II.

Depending on the book and how it is taught, AP1 is often the foundation for AP2. Plus, during AP1 you are developing the study styles that will help you through the rest of the core sciences. AP1 is often thought as the make or break class for the core sciences; so if you are taking it along side of AP2 you might have a hard time due to the time involvement required for lecture, lab, etc.

Thank you.

Well I won't say I don't know someone who has done it. I knew one girl who had taken both and did well. But she had already taken them once, but she had to take them again because it had been so long the classes had expired. But she did struggle some. She often had tests and lab practicals on the same day. For someone who has no prior experience I still would not recommend it.

At my school, A&P 1 is a prereq for A&P 2 as it lays the foundation. If you really want to take both during the semester, and are doing school full-time, you may want to consider splitting the courses during the 16-week session: 1st eight weeks, A&P 1; 2nd eights weeks, A&P 2. If there is a school in your area that does this, maybe it would be a better solution for you? It's very popular where I live.

They don't have the classes split up like that, at least not those classes. Medical terminology is the only class I'm taking that offered a shorter period of time.

The only way I was able to manage was because A&P I&II was offered flex, the first 8 weeks was A&P I and the second 8 weeks was A&P II. We established a strong study group from the beginning and scheduled office hours with our professor for extra understanding and help with flow charts. We would also divine up exam reviews and teach each other what we covered. I managed to finish this semester strong, but I wouldn't do it again. If you can split them over 2 semesters, I suggest doing that.
