one semester with all pre reqs complete

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I finished all pre requisites, did well on the TEAS and earned an EMT certification but I have a full semester after I apply for the nursing program in June. What should I do with my spare time:

Start a psychology minor at a state university

Apply for a job in healthcare (I currently work a non-healthcare job)

Take Spanish or Sign language classes

Get a CNA certification

Other?

any advice is appreciated, thank you!

I pretty much had two semesters to fill this last school year because I pushed clinical off for an extra year. I took all the non nursing co-requisites required so I would only have nursing classes to focus on this year. My program is an associates but I will attend the same school for BSN so I also took all of my bachelor pre-reqs. I'm kind of glad I did it that way now!

I would take any if those classes you can and get a PRN job in healthcare.

I am fluent in sign language btw, grandparents are deaf, I rarely run into many people I have to sign for and I've been in healthcare since 2008. If you do take a language, go with Spanish.

Thank you! Nice icon :)

I had 2 quarters between finishing prerequisite and when I start nursing school. I have used the time to work extra hours hand to take a break and spend time on me and my mental and physical well-being. I also took vacation to visit out of state family I don't get to see much.

I would advise picking up a part time or per diem healthcare job and taking some time to enjoy life. Once school starts you won't have a lot of extra time to travel or spend on hobbies so might as well take advantage of the time you have.

I would get your CNA just to have a head start in skills.
