Nursing programs for those with Previous Bachelors? Other questions too!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey all! I've been lurking around a bit and have finally decided to post some of the questions I've had. I graduated with my bachelors in Anthropology last year with a not-so-great gpa(3.13) and am finally coming to the end of my pre-reqs(Went to CC after graduating). My question is, is there a list anywhere of programs for students with previous bachelors? It's all very overwhelming since there are so many programs. I live in southern california and am willing to relocate.

Also, my other question is this. I've seen programs that are Accelerated MSN clinical entry for those with previous bachelors, but I have heard that hospitals look down on accelerated programs? Is that the case?

My other question is this, I'm very nervous about if I will be competitive with regards to getting into a nursing program. I was looking at MSN Clinical entry as well as accelerated BSN programs, but my Bachelors GPA isn't too hot. However I really bucked up this past year and managed to get a 4.0 in all of my pre-reqs(chem,AP1&2,psych,micro,etc). I'm hoping this will make a pretty big impact on my attractiveness to schools. Does anyone know of any programs that put a large emphasis on pre-req gpa? I have also been volunteering at my local hospital for the past year. Can anyone give me some suggestions, school wise...or any suggestions to make myself more competitive?

My undergrad GPA was almost identical to yours, and I too got a 4.0 in my pre-reqs and I got in to an accelerated BSN (TCU in Fort Worth, TX). Make sure you have an excellent essay and try to get some really good references too.

I graduated a couple years ago and have had no trouble getting hired. I can see where a master's entry might not be looked on as highly as a traditional master's, but I think the accelerated BSN programs are considered equally to traditional BSNs. If anything, it proves you have excellent time management skills to get through an accelerated program! Good luck!

You can download from the AACN website a list of postbaccalureate nursing programs at this link: http://www.aacn.nche.edu/Media/FactSheets/AcceleratedProg.htm

To be competitive, make sure you've got excellent reference letters and consider taking some additional classes (if you think you can ace them). If you've got any 2nd-language skills that you can refresh, that would help. Some schools look favorably on volunteer work and some like folks with CNA (some programs actually require it - mine did).
