I am 18 years old and currently enrolled in a community college. I want to get a nursing degree, but I also want to go to medical school. I am completely aware that nursing is not easy and the nursing program does not fulfill all the requirements for med school. My question is, what should I do? Has anyone else done this before? I'm getting stressed out because I don't know what classes to choose and the advisors at my community college are not helpful. I wanted to get my bsn and work for a year or two before applying to med school. If anyone could offer suggestions it would be a great help!
Also the pre reqs usually involved in a BSN program are: Biology, AP 1, AP2, Microbiology, Inorganic Chem, Organic chem, some sort of college algebra, Statistics, Nutrition, Human development, plus all the usually humanities and fine arts electives.
My ADN required Bio, AP 1 and 2, micro, college algebra, communication, psych 101, US gov, English 101 and 102, and soc 101.
I was able to take all the pre reqs for the online bridge programs for RN to BSN while waiting to start my ADN program, so after I pass NCLEX all I have to do is the actual BSN bridge classes. From my start to finish it was 4 years and I was able to have a life through it all.
My advice is for you to make a list of pros and cons for each direction. Realize that you may change your mind once you become more acquainted with the medical/nursing world. I chose nursing because it provided me the opportunity to be a patient advocate, teach and have the family/social life I want.

Not all BSN programs are like that. Most are not, in fact.
