Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey Guys, I am 26 years old. Male. I graduated last year with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with a GPA of 3.6 w Honors. My prerequisite GPA is really low which is about 2.8. I have been taking other prerequisite bio courses to raise my GPA. I really want to do nursing and apply for the accelerated nursing program in CA, but my perquisite GPA is too low. I've been volunteering at the hospital for 3 years now and going to be working as a caregiver this month.

I feel kind of lost right now after my rejection letter for the UCLA MECN program last year. I really want to finish my career and start working.

If you are becoming a caregiver and are working, is there a reason you don't do a traditional BSN route?

Go see the academic advisor of the school you would like to attend, ask what specific courses you are needing to take (probably all nursing courses) and that to me seems more reasonable than to go an accelerated route, attempt to work, and go back and take sciences again.

But you can only ask and see what is available to you.

Best wishes!

bboy_z55 I am a nurse who went through an Accelerated program. Some universities will let you challenge courses as well. Plus, there are tons of online options you might consider.

You may want to network through the organization you've been working with as well. Is there anyone you know who can vouch for you, another nurse going through the program etc.

There are plenty of options for you once you start to look beyond the barriers in your way.
