MBA degree. Which one do I choose- ADN or BSN?

Hi everyone,

I thoroughly enjoy reading the posts on allnurses.com and think it is a wonderful resource for current and aspiring nurses.

I have been working in a corporate job for 24 years. I am in sales and marketing but I have always wanted to be a nurse and do something meaningful with my life.

I have a undergrad degree in Computer Sci/Operations Research and a MBA in Finance. I have been looking around at the various programs available and have not been able to decide which path to becoming a RN

is the best for someone with my background.

I have looked at graduate entry programs into nursing, one year accelerated BSNs and ADN programs.

Is there anyone else out there that has made or is making this decision?

Several of the posts refer to the need for a BSN to advance into a management role. I have an MBA already and have held a variety of these type of positions.

What are the potential issues I should be cognizant of when selecting the

type of program I pursue?

I think that if the programs are the same length then the BSN is the way to go. Since you are in the business world you know that eventually job positions will want the higher degree - fair NO but that is the way which is why I went back to school. Good Luck to you!

If your looking at a management position the ADN isn't want you want to pursue.

Nursing is a skill all it's own so a MBA in another area doesn't get you into management (for the most part).

I would go the BSN route, because more than likely you are going to spend the same amount of time pursing either one. A accelerated BSN program is a good fit for those who already have a degree.
