Published

I am not in college yet.Im 25,and will have to take pre reqs and then wait and see if I will even get into the nursing program! But its what I want to do with a passion.Im so discouraged because I suck at math and I think that will be my downfall well the biggest one ...My question is lets say I have to start at remedial math how long will it take me to finish all my pre reqs if say I pass each class hopefully! Im hoping I can start college in September and im giving myself until im 30 to complete this mission is there any hope for me I need some words of encouragement

I was a high school drop-out aprox. 2 1/2 ago. (Had to take a remedial math, since I never took Algebra)

Now I'm a ASN grad...you have to search all avenues

I took remedial math classes and aced chemistry and med-dose. I was not thrilled at the idea of taking non-college credit math classes. In the end, I would not have it any other way. While some of my classmates struggled or worse-failed, I was tickled that I was actually proficient in math.

Oh I soooo feel your pain! I suck at math as well, but worked my butt off and made it. Very good advice in previous posts, I would second those ideas.

Another suggestion that worked for me. I dreaded walking into my Algebra class every night, but pumped myself up and changed my mindset to "this is a challange and I am going to master this!!!!" I also expressed my issues with my teacher and almost every class I arrived one hour prior to class start and would work thru, on the whiteboard in front of the class each problem from homework the night previous. If we were assigned say even number problems from chapter 4 review I did ALL the problems and challanged myself every night. Thankfully I had an awesome teacher who helped me the extra, because he saw my hard work and dedication to mastering this! I finished the class with a "B" and was never so proud of myself. All the A's in my other classes meant nothing cocmpared to that B. I WORKED for it and suceeded.

Best of luck to you. You can do it too :)

You may not have been thrilled with taking non-college credit class but wasn't the end result worth it?

Also practice practice!

Wow!!! You guys great advice, every last one of you aha I have to think because you guys are nurses or in the process is the reason you are so caring :) hehe.Im so motivated and appreciate the encouragement I'm more hopeful then ever. Will take all this great advice and use it.

Oh my, 25; that's ancient! Just joshin' ya. Here are some words of encouragement. The last time I took math was in high school in 1972. I got a D in algebra because all my other grades were good and my math teacher didn't want me to not graduate over one class. He gave me a passing grade just to be nice.

Fast forward to 2011 (really fast; you'll be surprised how soon you'll be in your 50s) after having various jobs that just didn't quite hit the sweet spot, trying and failing to combine nursing school with work and family, then finally getting all the kids raised and realizing I now officially had control over my time. Three years of part time science and other prereqs/general ed stuff. Really? Chemistry? OMG! What was I thinking? Does chiralty really have anything to do with nursing? (NO:) THEN....

Algebra and statistics--Wow! I took advantage of tutoring to even get into College Algebra then I had to take that 3 times--I finally got an A. Next step was Stats. I squeaked by in that with a C but I did it. Believe me, and I know you hear this everywhere, if I can do the math required, you can too. You're giving yourself 'till you're 30. I'm giving myself 'till I'm 60. I'll make it with room to be partially through my Master's for my FNP by then so I can finally do what I should have been doing 30 years ago. I'll probably have 10 or 15 years to do primary care in a clinic or hospice or something else interesting while waiting for my reaper buddy. You may not do it the way you'd like to do it; it may not be pretty; you may not pass the first time; you may be 31 (I doubt it will take you that long) but YOU CAN! You really do have plenty of time. Give yourself a break and keep putting one foot in front of the other until you get to the finish line. You don't have to do it perfectly, just have to do it.

Very encouraging :)

I was in your position when I started. I was 22 and absolutely horrible at math! I started in elementary/intermediate algebra then went to college algebra then the dreaded statistics (which, ironically I did the best in!). It took me :

Summer 2009

Summer 2010

Fall 2010

Spring, Summer, Fall 2011

Spring , Summer 2012

to complete my prereqs. I stated Nursing school in the fall of 2012 and finish up my first semester in 2 weeks. I am now 25 and will finish my BSN one month after I turn 27. Not ideal but I am getting it done and you can too. It will have taken me 5 years when its all said and done and that is with taking two semesters off.

time2go lol way to go! AHAHAH I loved that you might be 31 part lol:) hehe maybe hope not but your so right ! Watever it takes im gonna try and get this done so so so encouraging I literally read and reread that 3 times aha thanx and Good Luck

And Michaela aha I hope my five year plan has a happy ending like yours!!:) aha congrats wish you the best and thanx for the encouragement also

Eroc! congrats to you I know the feeling of being a highscool drop out was me at one time lol nice to see you changed it all around:)

Thank you! Good luck to you. And remember, even if you're 31 or 50 when your done, you're going to age either way. Might as well still pursue your dreams!!
