Published

hello everyone...im kinda new to this board...i been reading it for awhile now but just joined today. :-D I'm a freshman at towson university and im a pre-nursing student. supposedly towson's nursing program is very competitive and i didnt have the best first semester. one reason being is that i didnt have the best science background in high school and two i didnt get to choose what science classes i wanted to take. so this is what i got:

Gen Bio- C+

Gen Chem- C

Psych- C+

English- A-

I kno im not stupid, I was an A & B student in high school and i just didnt have the best teachers this semester. i dont wanna change my major and there is nothin i can possibly think of doing other than nursing...my mom says that im not capable of doing better and that I should change my major...any advice guys? thanks so much! :-D

It can be really hard to make decisions without knowing the facts about the particular program you want to get into. Therefore, if I were you, I'd get in touch with an adviser for the nursing school and see what they recommend you do. Don't just give up without talking to someone that knows what is required to get into your program. Also, most colleges and universities have resources available to help students with study habits, etc. Take advantage of everything they offer!

Hello and welcome to Allnurses:welcome:

I don't know anything about Townson University's program, but I know that at the Community College I'm doing my prereq's at....they say if you have more than one B, it's not likely you'll be accepted.

That being said....as far as whether you are capable or not....well, really only you can answer that question. Lot's of A and B high school students don't get A's and B's in college. College is more "self-directed" learning....meaning, much more work outside the classroom than in. So, I would suggest some hard-core introspection on your part. Really get honest with yourself. How much time did you spend studying this past term? Are you willing to increase it? Are you willing to learn a different way to study?

I wish you the best, no matter what you decide.

Peace,

Cathie

Yeah I will admit the transition was very different but I did spend a good amount of my time studying...i just dont no I'm so stressed. but i am willing to work harder...willing to do whatever it takes. but thanks for the advice! :-D

If it's what you really really want you will find a way, don't let anyone tell you differently. There are several ways of getting your nursing liscence you might need to be creative or even switch schools. You still have a good chance at your school though, one semester does not make or break a person, you need to buckle down and work harder to get those grades up though, maybe take on less of a load until you get your feet wet. Many schools look only at the pre requistes, not sure how your school does it, but you really should meet with someone at your school and make a plan and see exactly what you need to do.

good luck!

Hello,

I agree with Catzy5, you may want to look at other schools or lower the number of courses you are taking so that you ensure you get high grades. You want to think about what study style would work better for you. I wish you luck.

Hi everythingbeth89,

I'm a freshman at a university too and a pre-nursing student also. i also had a lot of classes this semester, which it's my first one too. It looks like you had a lot of major courses in one semester. Maybe you should try taking some easier courses with your science courses. Your science courses are what you want to do well in. So maybe you should take them one at a time. Don't get discouraged. Just try to study more and have good time management. I hope this helps.

good luck
