I got my letter

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

After almost losing my mind, the letter I wanted came yesterday. I cried, screamed and shook with excitement. Immediately after I calmed down I told everyone I loved about the news. Then I started reading all the stuff I needed, boy it is gonna be a lot of money. All worth it though, the background check is 130 bucks.

Then in the same day, I lost my best friend. No, she did not die. She deleted me because I got in and she did not. We met our first day starting the pre reqs for the program. I was shocked, but I could not and would not let her reaction dampen my mood.

Also, a shock came to me because we have to take a TEAS Test. The results of the test will not affect my admission though. It is scheduled for November 22 any advice on that?

When I get my books should I pre-read chapters when I get my nursing books? Any advice is welcome!

Also, we have a nursing orientation that must be attended in order to reserve your seat on the 8th of November.

I am excited and scared. I started chasing my dream in 2011 after being scared of failure for so long that I refused to even enroll, and now I am here.

I feel like it is where I am meant to be.

That's no way to treat a friend, so she probably wasn't a friend. The expenses during first semester are crazy! I'm all out of pocket so it was a killer for me. Hoping subsequent semesters won't be quite as bad, since background checks, dr appts and vaccinations, nursing student , supplies and all that is out of the way. You can't really read ahead much, in my Fundamentals class and in my Assessment/Pharmacology class our instructors jump all over the book. Definitely not in order of the chapters. You could brush up on A & P (body systems mainly), and learn dimensional analysis if you don't know it (nursing math), and study for the TEAS. I'm surprised they are making you take the TEAS if it doesn't even affect your acceptance. Our school uses our TEAS scores to determine our acceptance, among other criteria. Anyway, Good luck! It's a crazy ride.

That sucks about your "friend"! That's ridiculous. I suppose whenever something like this happens I figure better to know now that they aren't worth dealing with than later. It's not like it's your fault that she didn't get in!

I can't offer a whole lot of other advice since I'm in the prereq stage, but best of luck! You must be very excited.

First of all congrats!!!

As for your friend. Hey, maybe she will come around. This application process, tough prereqs, trying to fit in studies, life, works etc. if stressful and she must be completely bummed that she did not get in. She will, likely, chill and realize she has not acted as a friend. And if she doesn't, then just wish her well, better friends will come.

I am in the same boat, just found out I was accepted and overwhelmed by everything I need to do and buy. I don;t know about pre-reading, would be curious what others say, but I do plan to start practicing the skills (blood pressure etc.). I remember we tried to do this in a midwifery class I took and it was not that easy. Since my program is accelerated (ABSN), I will not have time to practice too much. Thank God my hubby is a volunteer EMT, hope he will coach me a little.

Thanks guys! Yeah, they make us takes TEAS afterwards as a gauge of our abilities. I will go and brush up on the body systems as suggested. This is so exciting, pricey and exciting!

I cant offer much advice as I just turned in my application to my school yesterday for the LVN program, I initially wanted to go into the ADN but I chose to take baby steps. I took the Hesi once last year and failed- again yesterday and PASSED so knowing how happy I was when I passed the entrance test, I can only imagine what it felt like to get accepted. Congratulations. Im not the one to pass judgment quickly, but I once had a friend like that too and things have been uphill ever since I decided to let her go. Don't ever give up on becoming the best kind of person you want to be- I have been chasing getting this far since 2009, and with getting married and having kids- and then once you're in school, there's deadlines and homework..Anyway- Congratulations again. You got this far, nothing can stop you now :)

Congratulations, it sounds meant to be! I'm sorry about your friend, if she is a real friend she will forget about it sooner or later. I suggest buying the ~$45 book of the TEAS V test study guide/manual at a local book store such as barnes and noble or something. It really helps your score to improve even though the test score won't effect your admission to nursing school (you never know, you may need to submit the TEAS score for something else). About pre-reading chapters, that will probably help A TON! Definitely on your part because you will understand better in lectures. However, for my nursing school friends at washington state university, which is where I'm also trying to get in, many of them don't read the chapters but use the book for other purposes such as understanding a concept better. I think it depends on whatever helps you study. I also suggest asking around to some other nursing students in your program to see what they did/are doing.
