I got accepted but I'm not excited. :(

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So after applying to CUNY to start my prerequisites I got denied.

Hunter College

York College

City Tech

Lehman college

They all wanted 3.0's. I graduated with a 2.6 in Criminal Justice and I really want to do Nursing.

I got 2 more chances.

I listed : LaGuardia CC and Medgar Evers College. I got accepted into Medgar Evers. I'm not excited. I really wanted to go to Laguardia. I don't know what to do. Besides, Medgar Evers is so far. :(

Any advice? I can't get into 4 year schools unless I go to a community college and bring up my G.P.A. I really didn't want to wait until the fall but it seems like the deadlines for the Spring is up :(

You are going to Medgar Evers College because you want to take the pre-reqs for nursing? Is that correct?

One main thing to consider is budget cuts. In my state, due to budget cuts, they have cut down on the number of classes offered, thus, less positions for that class is open. It makes trying to get in the class to take pre-req courses very competitive.

If your goal is nursing school, perhaps upping your nursing pre-req GPA is a good start. Nursing schools are very competitive, and where I live, a lot of the community and state colleges accept the students based on the point system, which GPA of the nursing pre-reqs is heavily weighed.

Also, when you apply to nursing school, make sure the rest of your application is excellent, from letters of recommendations to resume and other paperwork. You want to sell yourself and shine.

Good luck!

Thank you for your help. I guess I will settle. Since I applied as a transfer student to CUNY once 1 school accepts me they wont send out applications elsewhere. Kinda sucks... Maybe I can speak to them and hope they send my application to LaGuardia. If not, then I really have no choice but to do what I have to do and stay focused.

If the distance is an issue for the school you got accepted to, I would just go to a community college. CC's tend to be cheaper than many other schools, and you are only going for your pre-reqs. I would just find a nice community college that offers the pre-reqs you need, take them and get a great GPA, and then apply to the nursing programs of your choice once you complete your prereqs. This is what many students do, and is what I am doing myself. I am finishing up my pre-reqs at a local CC and applying for the nursing program next semester. Good luck!
