How I managed the PAX test

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I took the NLN-PAX this semester, and let me tell you.. it should not be underestimated. It covered some rather strange topics such as physics, electricity, etc, things you didn't take in pre-nursing courses. I got a 146, and here is how I managed.

The NLN Pax guide, from Amazon was around 50 bucks. This helped out so much, it has three sections.

-English:

It helps show you what the questions are going to be like on the exam, the book is a great tool for the format of questions asking about reading comprehension. The exam basically is the exact same for this part. For the vocab part of English though, you will need to study some SAT words. I studied the roots, suffixes, and prefixes just to brush up.

-Math:

The NLN book is fantastic for this. Study the book sections, do the exams, time yourself and keep the pace up because it is a fast moving section, but the book covers everything.

-Science:

This section is a bit tricky. For the sections such as A&P, this book is a great brush up on those topics and others you have taken classes for. But for physics and other classes you haven't taken, you need to get on YouTube or other sites and study exactly what the material is saying. Also lots and lots of formulas so memorize all of them.

The entire book, I wrote out all the bold definitions, did all the tests, and made about 30 pages of notes along with watching video explanations (took about 2.5 weeks but I was very free since I have all online courses this semester). If you start a bit earlier you should be fine. Don't stress, it's not the end of the world, average score was a lot lower than me but if you don't have a great GPA then this is absolutely vital.

Good Luck!! Any questions just reply

And wish me luck, I find out this week if I am in or not :)

Also here is a relative national chart for all the scores. My 146 was at the very bottom of the 99th percentile, I'd be glad to help anybody out.
