Ultimately, I know the answer is that everybody's different and you should do what works best for you, but I wanted opinions, pros/cons, etc.

I start A&P I tomorrow. The Biology Dept has generously made up digital flashcards for us (along with some games, crosswords, etc), but I'm wondering if I should make up some physical cards, as well.

Which works better for you, flashcard-wise? Physical flashcards you hold in your hands, either self-made or purchased? Or digital flashcards made & used online and/or on your smartphone/iPod/iPad? Pros? Cons? What have you learned or what tips do you have when it comes to the Wonderful World of Flashcards?

I've tried both. For some reason, it was MUCH easier for me to use hand written flashcards I made. I have an app on my Iphone, but just used it once. I found it easier to make the cards based on important topics we covered in lecture, and also made copies of the diagrams that we had to memorize, and used white-out to cover up the names. By the time I was done A&P I, I had a TON of cards. I didn't seem to use too many for A&P II though, because it seemed to be more physiology geared and less memorization and more understanding the "how".

I'm also a physical flash card person. I think it also had to do with the fact that I made them myself and took them everywhere that helped me with the information. As you said, it's very generous that the department made you flashcards, but I would consider making your own and then using their crosswords and games to help test you! But as you also mentioned, you'll find out what works best for you as the semester goes on :)

Thanks to both of you! I've been using the digital flashcards on my phone, but I'm also hand-writing physical ones to use. I suppose over time I'll be able to figure out which works better (or maybe both!). In the meantime, thanks so much for your input.

I think most people learn just as much from making the flashcards as compared to using them as a study aide. :)
