Failing Microbio lab

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

OK, I am here to whine...I am failing my Microbio Lab. On our

first real lab we had to do aseptic technique. My father-in-law had passed away

that morning, and I only came to lab because you can't make it up. I have no

idea what happened, that whole day is a little fuzzy, but I grew bacteria where

there should have been no bacterial growth, and I didn't grow bacteria where it

should have grown. I made a 20...yes I said 20. I am not sure I will be able to bring this up, I have made an "A" on all my quizzes, and all of my labs since have been fine (bacteria growing only where bacteria should) but, I am only

making a 62.45! I am so depressed. I am doing great in lecture, and I truly love the class, which is one of the reasons I am so heartbroken.

Anyway, thanks for letting me whine.

I would explain this to your teacher and even bring his obituary even as proof. I would then ask him if you could re-do it during his office hours when you are not bombarded with stress. Sorry for your loss, I hope all is well and everything works out for you!

I'd ask the professor if you could do the lab over. It may be too late but worth a try. When we were doing aseptic I forgot to sterilize my loop before I put it in the tube and by some miracle no bacteria grew.

Bummer. It's worth a shot to talk to the instructor, but you are going to find that "no do-overs" is generally the rule in nursing education - just like in a real patient care situation.
