Did you apply with BARE PreReqs out of the way???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

okay so i just had a question.. in southern calif or the schools im interested.. TECHNICALLY all you need are Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology and English...

so last semester was my first semester.. i took biology, Communications, and Chemistry

WInter session is here im taking English

this Fall im taking Anatomy, Microbiology and Psychology

in summer ill take Physiology.. so Essentially ill have Bare pre reqs out of the way... so im Eligible... im assuming i should apply right??? the reason i ask is because i see many posts with everyone done with those classes and then some like nutrition etc.. is that because you guys are on the waiting list? or maybe thats like an extra core requirement..Now i know that to graduate with an ADN ill need the history.. and the art or whatever.. but im just trying to get in asap.. so i figured if im on the waiting list.. ill take the extra classes i need to graduate.. but again whats your input? it is much appreciated..

thankyou

At the school I will be applying, there are pre-reqs that Have to be completed before you apply to the program and then there are pre-reqs that must be completed by the time you graduate. Although I can apply after I finish the first pre-reqs, I am going to finsh All of them before I apply for two reasons. First, my school does a point system and the classes that are not required to be finished before you apply are worth more points, so to have max points I want to finish them first. Second, because of the chaos of the program, the last thing I want to worry about is extra classes on top of my nursing classes. So I decided to spend a little extra time to get them out of the way first.

does that mean you cant get into the program with just anatomy, microbiology, english and physiology out of the way??

Specializes in Emergency Department.

I'm in SoCal and didn't need biology or chemistry for the ADN programs I applied to... just anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and English to *apply*. I did all the rest of the co-requisite education (history, PE, psych, soc, etc.) necessary to get the degree out of the way while waiting to get picked in a lottery somewhere. Now all I need to do are the nursing classes and I'm done.

does that mean you cant get into the program with just anatomy, microbiology, english and physiology out of the way??

No, there are a couple more that you HAVE to have finished before you apply and some you must finish before you apply to graduate. But if you apply with only the ones you have to have done you will not have a competitive amount of points to even get in.

But, every school is different.

We have to have history, english, psych, soc, bio, A&P 1&2, Micro, and Math

I attending a weekend/evening program through a private university. We can apply and be accepted without having all the pre-reqs completed but starting the nursing program is contingent upon the fact that we pass the classes. Right now I am on the list for the Fall 2010 class (nursing program only starts once a year in the fall) and I have 4 classes left to take. I am taking A&P2 and Statistics this spring and Micro and Chem in the summer and hope to start the program in fall. I will not know until March or April if I got in. They go by our GPA, the number of credits we have so far and the last 30 credits have to be completed at this university to get into the program. The bummer is that if I don't make it in this fall I will have to wait another year and will have completed my pre-reqs but if I take time off will have to start paying my student loans back. If I don't make it I think I am going to take spanish just to stay in school for the year.

Just reading this forum I am realizing how each schools requirements are different. Good Luck to you all!!

yea you dont need Biology or chemistry.. but in southern cal schools You need them as a prereq before you can take A&P or Micro.. hence y i said that...

ive noticed that half schools in SOCAL are either lottery or Waiting list.. so it to me it wouldnt make sense to be done with all my classesbefore i try and apply if im eligible right? i know you need math and stuff.. im not worried i tested into english 101 and calculyus so i have 3 years to complete it.. or i can take a credit by exam course for any course and be done with that.. im trying to find the fastest track to getting in... but i see your point.. i just figured as long as i do well in the classes Micro A&P and english.. i should be okay.. or hope to... if i happen to have to wait.. then ill knock out the history etc... what do you think... idk.. im just stressed about it.. itll crush me to test so high.. to take on boo coo classes and still wait 2 years
