Decision is becoming clear...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So I have been ultimately flipping thoughts around in my head and it has been overwhelming to say the least. I currently attend Pace University as I think some of you guys know, but I am transferring to my Community College (Orange County Community College) to get focused and possibly do their ADN program.

I have been flipping between Medical School and Nursing School. I read an in depth post about Medical School versus Nursing School from a post made in 2009.

I want to have Patient Interaction, and I want to be able to make a person's life more comfortable while in the hospital setting. Yeah maybe I don't want to just be the male to do the heavy lifting, and sometimes it makes me sad to think that's all I will be, but I find Nursing is going to be more for me. My grades haven't been the best, but I have been turning them around knowing my long term goal.

I think I was deciding to go the doctor route to shy away from that. Or maybe I was going for the satisfaction, but in deciding this my family will be happy with whatever decision I make.

I want to go into Emergency, not so much long term care, just to deal with constant changing. I now am currently even looking to go beyond a BSN when I eventually get it and possibly go for NP or PA. Sorry I know this post is sporadic, but I guess it's just all my thoughts are in one place.

Emergency? Go PA and don't look back

Good Luck

I just want to say that as a nurse, you will be more than just "heavy lifting." You will me asked to help with lifting certain patients but many times the females can handle that unless it is a bigger patient. If there is a code strong on your unit, you may need to step in. But that will depend on your hospital policies and such anyways.

Glad you made a decision that you're comfortable with! Congrats!
