Decided On Nursing, Now I'm Confused On Where to Go From Here...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm a new member here and finally made the decision to go into Nursing. I decided on going after a BSN and maybe eventually an MSN.

I'm currently a freshman at a city college and I only have 9 credits...

My question is: Can I take the pre-requisite courses online that are required by 4-year BSN programs?

Thanks!

Hi there! Great choice!! I took many of my prerequisites to the nursing program online. The best place to check is the school (or schools) that you plan to attend. Check their website for requirements, and if you are still unsure, probably best to call them and make sure that the courses you plan to take online transfer over to their school.

Best of luck!!

Hi. I'm currently taking some prereqs through PortageLearning.com. It's affiliated with a brick and mortar school so the courses transfer well. You just have to verify with the nursing program that they will accept them. I have taken A&P 1 and am currently taking A&P 2 and Micro through them as my school will accept them. The only thing is you pay out of pocket for the courses...like $700 per course but you can start at any time. I decided that the availability of the courses outweighed the cost. Hope this helps.

Good advice from your other responses - I found the most helpful thing was to speak directly with the nursing advisors for the programs your interested in. Most programs seem to require the same basic courses but you want to be certain you KNOW what is required. A quick 30 min meeting/call with an advisor will help you sort it all out! Best of luck and congratulations!

I'm co-signing on everyone elses advice! Definitely talk to your program of choice about what classes you can and cannot take on line. Usually humanties courses are a-okay to take in the distance learning format. As a very geberalized rule of thumb, if it has a lab go to a face-to-face class!
