Considering nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi all!!

I'm totally new to this site and really want to thank anyone that offers their advice. So I was in my senior year of college and I decided I wanted to become an RN. My dilemma is that I've been out of school for a year, would like to go back but have no idea how to even start. Any advice is greatly appreciated! I live in New York, my major in college sociology.

Hi, welcome! Did you finish your degree in sociology? If you have your bachelor's your best bet would probably be an Accelerated BSN (ABSN) program which would allow you to earn a BSN in 1 1/2-2 years. The only issue is that as a sociology major you may not have completed the required prerequisites (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, etc.) needed for admission into a nursing program. If this is the case you can complete these courses at a community college and then apply to ABSN programs. Good luck!

I agree. The accelerated program is probably your best bet if you already have a Bachelor's. If you did not finish see if you still can apply to an accelerated program with the number of credits you have. Some colleges allow you to apply if you have completed general education courses. It sounds like you may have completed gen ed classes if you are a senior! Check out this site to help you choose a program in your state:
