CLEP or Lecture

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I dropped out of Chem at my school this semester because the professor and the lab was very difficult to follow, the book was messed up and was hard to transition from one subject to another (did not build upon itself well), the lab was dirty, old, cramped, and unorganized and I was not doing well. I dropped out and decided to take the CLEP but now that I am studying for the CLEP I am finding it difficult to teach myself this stuff. I took three years of Chem is high school and did well, but it has been two years sense then. I was going to take the CLEP and then the lab at a different school near my parents this summer. But it is hard to teach myself this stuff. I am wondering whether I should perservere and save my money and time during the summer by taking the CLEP or taking the lecture and lab at the school near my parents this summer. I want as much time this summer to myself to volunteer at the hospital and plan my wedding and just relax but I just don't know.

-Thanks for any advice.

Specializes in Operating Room.

If you think you could pass the CLEP, go for it. For myself, I'd need the lecture.

I guess it all depends on you, and what you think you could do.

Maybe another instructor, at a different college will be better.

Goood luck in your decision.

Some states used to require labs with some of the science courses so I'd check with your BON.

Having taken 3 quarters of chemistry recently, I would definitely say try the other school rather than attempt to teach it to yourself. It's such a complex subject. If it were something like history, that would be a different story, but sciences are often hard to wrap your mind around without a good instructor.

I completely understand about wanting the summer off -- I have to take a couple of classes this summer that I hadn't bargained for. It's a bummer, but at least it's a short session and I'll have some time off before Fall quarter. When are you getting married?

i have heard some horror stories about cleping out of classes... i wont do it now! lol :rotfl: i would also look into the nursing program you are hoping for. i know that mine will not accept a clep for a lab science... you must take the lab and the lecture in order for it to count towards admission.

good luck!
